Should I stay or should I go....

Hello All,

I play $50 no limit at the moment. Do people think that once you have made a bit of cash (+$20) at a table you should leave the table protect your winnings and leave the table, or try and extract more out of the table.

I feel that people change their play against a big stack, and you have more raises called, in my experience it becomes more tricky as people are more switched on against you. Or can you use it to your advantage and take the table apart (which I have yet to manage!).

Any views, help or advice would be great.

In general I'd say stay. If the table is a good one then keep playing and keeping winning.

I think it averages out a bit in terms of play. If you've won big hands with big cards then people respect the big stack and you'll have an easy time of it. Others go into "oh he's just bullying" which is stupid reasoning in a cash game.

Either way, good play will continue to have good results.

The only potential reason for leaving I can think of is if there's are one or two players who cover your stack and are clearly good/better players.
But in general if you're looking to improve you've got to be willing to go deep against good players when necessary, just have the hand to do it and focus on getting your share of the cash off the weaker players.

My opinion is to stay at the table if the table fits your style of play. If you made $20 you have a buffer and you can wait for the next big beat. When I realize that my play becomes a little loose due to the higher stack a make short break to reset myself.
I experienced the opposite. People fold more often when I as a high stack raise but this depend on th e provider and the setting of the table.

I tend to try and play at tables where I can bully players and I find that a big stack encourages them to fold. This can be a good or a bad thing, obviously, but by and large I like it.

Stay until youre not playing good. And IMHO $70 at a $50 table is not a 'big stack' it means you have one one niceish pot!

i only sit deep if the table is good or their is another deep stack sat who isnt a shark.
Beyond that i tend to sit with a lot of half buy in players who play horribly for 50bbs or so

The only reason I leave a table is if the table itself sucks. I've sat at tables with 3 and 4 buy ins and have no problems actually getting more payoffs as the idiots try to double up by taking runs at you with garbage. I've been bluffed at with a double paired board, Had guys go all in with an obvious 4 flush or straight board while holding the nuts. Just stay tight, you won't need to bully. With a big stack they come to you.

Thanks for all the replies. Tried staying on the tables last night, once I was passed the $70 mark, definately worked as was able to run up to $120 with some good hands and some bluffs!!!

I don't know how much you normally bluff, but be careful about turning into the table bully when the chips get deep. Some players start to think they're invincible when they build up a big stack, and there's always another player waiting to knock you down a peg. Just play the same game that sent the chips your way in the first place. Just a word of caution...

Thanks warpe, I don't bluff that much, as feel that at 50NL to many people will call with second pair, so I am really careful to pick my spot, I have also learnt not to risk my whole stack on a bluff unless I have a really good read on the player. Got burnt a couple of times in my early days.
