It sucks that the guy had a 4....but i just want to point this out.....Your in the CO (2nd from the dealer button) (Great table possition) with an unraised pot with one guy who limped from middle possition. If you raise with your 55 you might get the SB and BB to fold. A 3x raise is good 4 max. Then you dont have to worry about that straight as much. You want to narrow down the field. That flop is not only a flush draw but a straight draw and you flat called a 3x bet??? 3 bet his 3x bet next time... make him pay for the draw!!! If you just smooth call here your giving him better odds on hitting his flush or straight, by raising your giving him really bad odds to call. Gotta be aggresive not passive. I think if you raised 3x preflop the sb and bb wouldnt of been in there and you woulda took this pot home. theres my 10c

Im opedipus bitch, the original balla.
Raise the flop. This board is really drawy, especially in a limped pot. You have a strong hand that wants to get money in. You have to raise this flop here and try to get money in, while also making people pay for draws etc.

I like the limp PF but definitley raise the flop to punish him for trying to draw out. Even when the draw hits on the turn you are still in position and going to boat the river 1 out of 5 times and if the draw doesn't come you might not get anymore money out of him.

    Yeah,

This whole hand I knew I played it poorly, the thing I wasn't so sure about was...well I just played it horribly and I posted it just to make sure.

I usually raise my PP no matter what position I'm in even if I have to fold it postflop when I don't hit, I decided not to do it this time to save some money but in the end it cost me much much more.

I personally raise 2-3x BB with lower pocket pairs. Is that not recommended?

And yeah, I would've bet more aggressively on the flop so that he'd have to pay to chase the straight/flush draw. But then, would that guy have really folded A4 or K4 if you raised a bit on the flop?
    OP: Beginner to Master

If I bet as a bluff, I should be thinking "am I getting better hands to fold? Is it likely that he will fold x% of the time to a y sized bet to make it +EV?". If I bet for value, I should be thinking "am I getting worst hands to call? Am I ahead of enough of his range that this is a good value bet?".

well you dont need to raise every low pocket pair you get. when your in late possition with 1 limper and the blinds to go bump it a nickel. Its not really gonna hurt your stack and its gonna get the blinds out of there (80% of the time) Plus if you hit a set the pot is bigger already :~) because of your raise. now say you got 44 and your in EP limp in with it dont open with a raise unless its a passive table then maybe you can think about opening with it. Dont just say i got a pp im gonna raise it. You gotta take possition and the momentum of the table into consideration. i hope i helped GL

I really never like to Open limp though. There's no reason for it. I do like calling behind with my 22-88 just because if high cards hit with enough people I'm probably beat so I'm just looking for my set.

but if you raise then you may face a reraise. so limp and villian raises 4 +1 or you open 3x and face a 3 bet. I dont play any deuces or threes from utg. but if i am in middle poss with these i limp and im willing to call a raise for the right price of course.
