    Default Session Reviews

Would anyone be intested in reviewing a sessions hand histories once a week or two for me?

I could do the same for you and we could talk about them after.

I think it would be useful to help us pick out some small leaks (or huge ones) that we dont bother to post hand histories for.

Im playing 10NL at the moment, hoping to move up to 25NL reasonably soon so anyone from 10NL or 25NL full ring whos been playing for a reasonable amount of time would be ideal.

Of course, if some of you high stakes folks wanted to coach me then you are very welcome

What do you consider to be a "reasonable amount of time?" I have about 8K hands over the past 2 months at 25NL having moved from 10PL to 25PL and then to 25NL.

I think it would be a good idea for some of our successful players (at any limits, just successful) to post HH's of entire cash game sessions.

I think a lot of players (like me) have trouble with the "standard" situations that aren't generally posted in the HH forum (cuz' they're boring).
  4. #4
"cuz they're boring" LOL I love it.

I think the greatest secret of the long-term winning player is how boring poker can be generally. KingLizard knows what I mean - 4k hands per month is boring shit, but you make money at it.

I would post a session history, but where I play only gives hh for 5 hands at a time. can you believe it?
  5. #5
Yea sure King Lizard we can give it a go.

If there are more people who want to join the fun we could switch pairs every so often or something too.

I was thinking sending 100-200 hands to look over, and you can do the same. Then we can meet up in MSN or somewhere somehow and have a chat about it.

And yes Renton that would be great. I saw this at 2p2 so I decided to rip them off again

I would be pretty interested, but my sessions are generally more like 1k-2k hands.

I 9-table. However, I could send one table from one session.

I'm afraid my stats wouldn't be as stellar as some other posters', though, because of my very low VPIP and my sometimes lacking BB/100.
  8. #8
Ok new plan. Im going to add a pole to see whos interested and then we can pair up and swap around every couple of weeks.

As someone who's not up to anything like the level you're talking about I was wondering if there's any possibility of some of you guys letting some of us fish sit in and listen to the discussion.

Seeing a whole session, with hands and action in context would probably be valuable for us too.

Im down for this, but my sessions consist of playing 1K hands, so how should I define a session? Just pick one table and get the histories for that?
  11. #11
OK it looks like we have enough interest to get going so ill get this organised. I have in mind sending a continuous stream of hands from 1 or 2 tables, over 2 hours ish. The idea is its your regular sort of game and not just the allins.

If everyone posts their names here ill leave this thread here for a day or 2 and then ill pair people up and they can organise the rest themselves. We can swap partners every 2 weeks or so.

It would be best if the pairs were of people who are at the same stakes/site but well have to see how many people get involved before we worry about that.

edit: Depending on what people want we could do this weekly, or every 2 weeks, or every month or whatever.

pff. Put yourself down for it. I dont see why you couldnt sit in on some discussion but youd probably find it more useful to go through some 5NL and 10NL hands that you are involved in with someone.

Just pick the most interesting table. Not necessarily the winningest. But most interesting.

problem is youll see a lot of folded preflops, and a lot of check/folded flops. My vpip at 6max LHE is about 25. So in a 300 hand session there will be 75 hands where ive actually played.

I guess the best thing to do is use PT to export the hands and use the filter for "put money in pot" to do so.

No, I don't think this is a problem at all.

I like to see the pure session history. I want to see the folded preflops. I want to see the cbet takedowns. I think its these standard plays that novices and intermediates like myself need to see.

Im not sure about this. If there are hands you should be playing but fold, then you will miss them. The whole point of this is to review a whole session. If you have specific interesting hands they can be posted in the HH forum. Im not entirely sure how this will pan out but I think it would be better to keep entire sessions. That would also give each hand a context. If some guy is raising too much and you make a weak fold with AQ in position then hopefully someone will spot it. If you just use hands YOU have played then you miss out on all of that extra information.

what would be cool is if we could take the entire sessions and run them through replay program or something.

Doesn't PT have something like this?

It has a replayer but you need to keep clicking the next hand button so you cant just sit back and take notes.

What would be really awsome is if someone could right us a little program to play the hands out over the internet with a little chat box under it and we could talk while it happened....... someone?

Poker Office has a replayer that will play an entire session without having to click next in between. Chatting on aim during this wouldnt be too difficult as long as they were set to the same speed and you paused on interesting hands, I think that would be a good way to do this.

Yes, its $80 to buy, but there are offers where you can get it for free by playing at a few different sites. I got mine by depositing $100 and playing 200 raked hands at empire, very easy to do in a single day and definitely worth it.

OK Ive figured out how to watch whole sessions in poker tracker and its really not hard.

    1) Import the hand histories how ever you usually do.
    2) In the Session Notes tab, click on the session you want to watch and sort it by hand number so the small numbers are at the top.
    3) Click the "r" button to go to the replayer.
    4) Select the Auto-play Hands check box, and in the pull down menu make sure "play all hands" is selected.
5)(optional) Ive also got the "known hole cards" checkbox unticked, and the pull down menu under "auto play hands" is set to "play all hands".

Ok so the list I have so far is:

    Pelion
    KingLizard
    sejje
    Anosmic
    andy-akb
    Renton

euphoricism, im not sure if you guy wanted to do this or if you were just posting suggestions.
If I missed anyone out then say so.

It would be useful if you could all post your stakes so I can try and match people close together.

Id like to get this started in a week or so.

Pelion, I am provisonally interested - a problem is I sometimes can't guarantee my time. However, I am in the UK if that's a plus!

I am not sure how you can use the replayer to show someone else your session and vice versa - can anyone explain?

You can send them a list of hand histories. They can watch them and you can talk through them at the same time. I was anctually thinking about usuing vent for this if we could get a channel. You basuically both watch it seperatly, but at the same time. Or you watch it by yourself and then talk through key hands later. As far as I know there is no way to replay hands so that you both watch them at the same time over the internet, but if anyone knows of a way that would obviously be the best.

Dont worry about the time thing. WE can sort that when we know whos interested.

    Pelion - andy-akb

    KingLizard-Anosmic

Ok well, andy-akb and me have already started going through some stuff. That kinda made sense since we play the same tables at stars.
I think the rest should look something like this.

It would be good if we could get some more people involved. im sure andy-akb and me could swap around with Kinglizard and anosmic at some point.

I have to say, ive been through a couple of sessions already and this is a great way to get a new perspective on things that i would have never bothered to post in the HH section.

Count me in as well, though I don't have PT (yet). I live in the Midwest and play $5NL at PartyPoker (until I get kicked off).

This is a great idea however it would be far more effective if you just film 1-3hrs play with audio commentry using video capture software, and exchange videos (send thru torrents, p2p or even dvds/post). Like how Dwarfman does his vids.

Another option would be to actually set up remote desktop-ing and audio communication so one can watch the others tables / hole cards whilst BOTH are discussing everything in real time. I think this would be one of the most effective methods of learning anyone could undergo, and really beneficial for both players.

The only downside is you'd have to have great trust in eachother as your showing your holecards in realtime. I may do this with my bro sometime in the future or one or two other very close poker-head friends of mine.

It would, when I visit home and watch my bro play where we can discuss in realtime we both learn alot about our own games and eachothers game etc.

It would take alot to setup, but once it is a weekly sechduale could be set or something.. I may look into it in the future but currently I'm busy studying and learning from a different / similar method (www.cardrunners.com vids, about to sign up in the next few days)

I think this is a great idea. I'd love to see some 1-2 hour whole cashgame sessions. There are a lot of things in poker that are obvious and important, but that i don't get until someone says it. Anyway, I learned a lot from dwarfman's vids and would like to see more. (I don't think I'd pay $20 a month though ) Here's some free ones: http://www.pokertips.org/videos/videos.php

this is a great idea. i hope i havent missed the boat.

pelion can you pair me up? Or anyone want a partner.

I am currently playing 10nl 10-max, and four table. a normal session is approx 600 hands. so i can provide the HH for one table.

Also i live in australia, so there may be someone in a similar timezone that may be suitable.

I would love to join and be pair up with someone. Ive read a lot over the site recently and learned plenty. I started off with the free money from pokerstakers and have been playing micro stakes and just not doing well and its probably some stupid leak, but when i got tired of that and entered into a 5 table 6$ buying MTT i finished in 5th and got 22.50... so id love to be in this to improve my ring game play and maybe i should move up to higher stakes or maybe i just suck so bad i cant win low stakes, id really love to be in this.

Id definitely like to continue this, so keep me on the list for $50NL

Well, I think it's a good idea and would like to continue.
I'm still doing the $10NL thing. So if Yorib or Jackbmw (or Myke) are up for it...

Bump to hopefully remind people about this.

Hey Pelion and group - rather than using AIM, would you guys consider using the FTR Chatroom? Each pair could create a private room to discuss their sessions, and then their would be a log of it. I'm sure the learnings from this exercise would be helpful to a lot of visitors. Not only that, each of you could review the other teams' findings.

That would be a great place to do it. I forgot we could create our own rooms

I'm up for chatting with Andy and Donny, though I might need my hand held at various times! I have AIM (and MSN though that's not listed on FTR) so I'm very much available - I'm not averse to discussing poker during working hours (UK) either

I missed this the first time around. I am interested if it is still going on

    Stakes 10NL and 25NL

I am on EDT right now (New York time).

Don't know about the video stuff but willing to chat through here. I could probably do it through Yahoo Msngr too.

Doing OK at 10NL trying to build roll back up but need a lot of help at 25NL if someone is willing to mentor....

Likewise interested and missed it on the first go - $10 and $25 NL - probably moving to $25 NL full time though.

I would be willing to give this a shot. I play $25NL at Stars
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

How exactly should we go about setting up a private room in the chat? And where are the logs saved, locally?
