    Default Ring Sessions

    Lately I have based my playing on time. I will play at night for 2 hrs 4 tabling. I just started with the whole time thing. No one told me to do it this way I just decided maybe it would work. Here is a typical night for me.
    We can say 1 hr into my session my stacks look like this
    25NL full tbl PP

    Table 1: 27.80
    Table 2 34.00
    Table 3: 24.75
    Table 4: 26.00

    30 minutes later it may look like this.

    Table1: 32.00
    Table2: 24.00
    Table3: 45.00
    Table4: Reloaded 25.00

    When I profit a certain amount should I just stop for the night? Or just play for 2 hrs during the weeknights? I am having a hard time with a correct way to profit and then maybe move tables, quit, or stay put. If I make a buy in for a 2 hr session which would be 50/bb per hr thats good right ? For instance, would it be ok to make 6.00 at each table and then quit? My variance is coming from stacking a person and then playing more aggressive because i have the chips and Iam more than likely picking on a smaller stack. So through my sessions Iam up and down and all around. Advice?

    A bigger stack doesn't make your chips worth less like they are in tourney. Stick with the play that built your stack in the first place.

    I think Iam thinking that way because I started playing tourney. Does my average seem right to you for 2 hrs? And lets say I was able to make 1 buy in 30 minutes.. Instead of testing the waters, like I feel I do sometimes... Would it be smarter to just click exit and call it a good night? Lots of people I know and see on PP will have massive stacks like for instance one guy had a stack at a table of like 115.00. This guy must have been playing for hours. I cant commit to that .. But steady profitting like 25 bucks a night will do me fine. I make the most money with I go 5 hrs plus.... Its the ups and downs in between that screw me. I dont tilt or anything, its just a time period I have noticed where things can get rather dry.

    As Daniel Negreanu said "There is no such thing as quitting while you're ahead on poker. As long as you are playing with the same winning style, you can play for as long or as short as you want." Or something of that nature.

    I know it does suck when you have a stack of around around 250 bbs and are thinking you should quit.. then a few hands later you're staring at 160 bbs and wondered what happened.

    When you quit, it should be up to you. If you're starting to feel bored, lazy, tired, titled... just stop for the session. I've ended on + sessions and - sessions. Sure it feels better ending up for the session, but that can't happen everytime.

    The only games I live up to the "quit while you're ahead" standard is something like blackjack or craps.

    No way Iam quitting the craps table untill someone tells me youve had enough or the wife comes down at 5 am to say honey are you coming to bed. lol . I can go all night through the morning on the craps table. I had a session in Puerto Rico that lasted 9 1/2 hours. Still went to bed at like 8 am with 1500 bucks. I was drunk as hell too. lol

    Good lord. 9 1/2 hours in craps that's just ill.

    I've played a few long crap sessions, but longest was like 2 hours. I did play blackjack for about 7 hours one day at my casino. If I hadn't been buzzing I would have been sick to my stomach at the up and downswings I was going through.

    I dont think Id ever advise leaving because you are up a certain amount, unless it was total luck then you made the money for a reason. Whether that reason was because the players are horrible in general, somebody was tilting, etc. dont leave until the reason you are making money goes away. If you are making money playing your regular solid game against an average table its a little different, Id say leave whenever you felt you were "on your game." Really though, if there is an uber fish at your table, dont leave until either he leaves or you have his money. I typically try to grind out 1k hands a day [only about 2 hours 8tabling] on the days I decide to play, regardless of how much profit that is. If the tables Im on are bad, Ill find another table to finish my session on, if they are average then when my 1k hands are done Ill leave, if they are especially juicy I will stay until I feel they have dried up.

    Over at 2+2 I was reading a thread that asked the same general question as this one. A poster explained why this isnt a good idea for another reason pretty well. He sai dthat if you want to average $25 a day you arent going to be making $25 monday tuesday wednesday, etc. Instead you will have -10, +$45, +$40, -$20, +$60, if you decided to stop playing those days where you had made your $25 then you would be way below your "average."

    I had food delivered to me and I ate standing up.
    Then drank some more so that didnt happen. Craps downswings are the worst if you play 27 across + 5 on the line w/ 15 behind it.

    So guys whats the answer to this?

    I leave when a table breaks down to 7 players. Lots like to occasionally sit out for 15-20 minutes. I guess there really isnt an answer to my question because it is and always will vary. I will continue the 2 hrs a night and just play accordingly.

    There isn't one. Sit as long as you're effective and don't have other plans. Personally, I get better at poker when I get tired. I could be slumping over with a drool strand hanging from my mouth to my shirt, and I'll snap off your bluff attempt.

    Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

    Another subject.. lol
    But I cant say its written in hard on schedule... Sometimes I dont want to play poker.. I have no desire... So I dont play. I try to break my time up wisely so Iam not married to poker. I break myself up into a percentage and give to all those who are worthy. lol

    Something like this..

    FTR = 25%
    Wife=50%
    Poker=5%
    Dog=2%
    Masturbation=.5%
    Sleep=5%
    Work= whatevers left.

    I'd say the "wife" percentage is too high.. swap some of that for poker
