ReRaising amounts?

Hello all,

I am sure this has a lot of "depends" answers but what is the proper amount to reraise when someone min bet or bets a small amount into a big pot say like a 1/4 or a 1/3.

Lets asume that we feel our hand is best or at least in the lead.

Is it best or "normal" to reraise his bet 3 or 4 X or...reraise based on the pot size say 3/4 or Pot. This is of course when we are not going AI?

Heads up I ususally raise 3 or 4 x for value.
With other callers or caller behind I will usually bet bigger to take it down right there.

Any thoughts?

It depends on what you want to do. If you have TPTK then you just want the bet to be commiserate with the pot size. In that case I raise it to 1/2 - 2/3 pot.

If I have something where I want to play for stacks then I likely go for pot size or more.

Say somebody leads $10 into a $40 pot with a lot of money behind and I'm very confident I have the best hand, bumping it up to $50 or so is usually pretty good. That's a 2/3 pot raise.

Really situation dependant though...

If someone leads 10 into a 40, then your 50 raise is full pot, not 2/3.

someone leads 10 into 40 pot, pot is now 50, it would be 60 after my call, 2/3 raise on top is 40 more, plus the call is 50. 2/3 pot raise.

yes, that's how it works.

I'm raise more out of position, than in position. I want to create an inflection point earlier when OOP.

Not quite, heads-up, if you have to call a full pot bet, you have to call for 33%.. if you have to call a 2/3 pot bet, you have to call for 28.5%.. and here villain has to call $40 into what will be a $140 pot or 28.5%. So it is indeed the equivalent of making him call a 2/3 pot bet.

My bad, I read it as if you were raising 50, not 40

I think you mean that I was just raising to the amount that was already in the pot, thinking that's what a pot raise is (like most people).
