    Default Report on random players

I see a lot of hands posted where people are unsure how to play against random/unknown players. I have found the 'report' section on PT3 useful for this.

I have run a report (filtered for my regular game) on players that I have less than 50 hands against. I have found it very useful in my decision making. It currently takes it stats from a pool of 7,685 players and 42,284 hands. Below are just some of the averages it provides me with:-

Stats for the average random player

    VPIP ... 25%
PF Raise First In ... 19% (I used to have PFR but I find this more useful)
    PF 3B ... 8%
    Fold to PF 3B ... 34%
Attempt to steal from button ... 28%
    C-bet flop ... 70%
    Raise flop ... 5%
    Fold to flop c-bet ... 50%

I have other stats but these are the ones I find most useful. I also have other reports filtered by position that I find useful.

I think it's the sort of thing everyone could benefit from and I recommend that everyone does it for their own regular game. I think it's also worth running a similar report on your regs. I found the difference between the two groups to be both striking and enlightening.

Interesting analysis, which seems that our base assumption should assume TAG-ish in the absence of any better information (although Fto3B seems very low). Key thing is not to get out of line and make assumptions about any villain however without a decent sample size, but TAG is probably the best assumption to start with (along with modifications based on the stake you are playing).

I'd say that after 50 hands, VPIP and PFR won't be wildly inaccurate however so the numbers are probably more useful for <20 hands. You also need to be careful here using an average, as you could find that exactly half of your sample are nits and half are whales/maniacs depending on your sample size.

I think you may have missed the point of this. I do not recommend that anybody makes any decisions on these stats. I recommend that they generate their own stats.

These are my stats for 2c/5c 6-max speed poker on the Ipoker network. I would expect stats for different games to be different.

I take on board what you said about stats for u20 hands being more useful. I think you have a point and I've run a quick report on those players. I find that they are even more loose, even more passive and have an even lower fold-to-3bet %age. Not a huge surprise, but I might find it useful now that I have it quantified.

I would be very surprised if the averages come about because of polarised whale/nit split. This is mainly because the Ipoker player pool comes mainly from bookmakers' sites and I would be very surprised if the typical random player who wanders onto the poker site out of curiosity will be willing to sit tight and wait for premium hands. Instead I would expect them to play a wide range of hands 'just to see what happens'.

    Fold to PF 3B ... 34%
Holy hell thats low. How big is your sample size?

bigspenda73: But how much did you win?

Sample size is stated in the original post and is for 7,685 players and 42,284 hands. It surprised me too. By comparison, players I have more than 100 hands on have a Fold to PF 3B %age of 54% (15,110 hands). Players with less than 20 hands are at 29.9% (29,194 hands). I wouldn't be surprised if the stats were dramatically different for FR on Stars.
