rake & pot-odds

Do people ever take into account the rake when calculating pot odds? I'd imagine not, because it tends to be a relatively small portion of the pot, but with marginal pot odds, the rake could turn it into a -EV situation.

I dont. Maybe in some poker rooms where they rake $1 on a $3 pot preflop. I honestly never had paid attention to online rakes. I am remembering the rakes were under 3-5% of pot so not too significant to change betting strategy.

I believe the rake is not considered in a pot because a Pot is a short run situation; in the long run however, any leaks on income can become an issue.

ie. Short Run: You finish 1st in a 20+2, you just made 78$ net profit.

Long Run: You've played 5,000 20+2 SnGs and have averaged winning 15$ net / per SnG. Your total profit would be: 75,000, however, without the rake it would be 85,000 (5,000 * 2=10,000), in laymens terms the rake represents ~11.7% of your total income that has "leaked" from your overall wealth.

I think I got that right, if I didnt, then I really dont want to see my Economics exam results.

Online is about 5% until you get to a high enugh limit that it regularly caps out at $2-$3.
