Default raising preflop with 8-8 here would have saved the day ?

    300$ Buy in NL holdem.
Villain has Hero covered. Hero has 200$ in front.

Hero is 8-8 in UTG+2, Villain is BB.

Hero limps, MP1 limps,MP2 limps, BB checks.

    flop: 5-7-8
BB bets 30, Hero pushes, BB calls showing (4-6 for flopped straight)...hero doesnt fill up.

I realised my mistake of not raising preflop, but i thought limping in with pp is the best play OOP in NL.

I play mostly limit and was just testing the waters in NL at our B&M. I think post flop was fine no?

Do any of you raise pairs like 4-4 -----10-10 preflop or always limp OOP. ??

maybe its a very elementary question, but still would like to know...

there's no rules for raising small pairs pre-flop. villain happened to out flop you. would you have posted this if you had filled up?
Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject. So you know you are getting the best possible information.

no. i didnt mean to post as bad beat (or any kind of beat). I am just learning NL (actually reading NLTAP currently). However, there are no guidelines on this book as far as hand charts go.

I thought that reason for not raising mid pocket pairs is that we are only playing for set values and if the board comes all overcards we have to give it up too often no...maybe i am thinking in terms of limit..shit..

You should raise low-mid PPs on tighter tables, as if you hit your set you are more likely to get paid off in a raised pot. On loose tables, limp them because there will be a lot of people in the pot anyway, increasing your chacnes of getting paid in an unraised pot.
My sig is too much for you to handle.

I tihnk you are realizing this simply because you ended up flopping a set and the BB got in free and made a better hand, if the BB had a hand like 75 would you be asking us the same question? Postflop I dont like, thats a huge overbet, make it maybe $75 and push most turns or call a push on the flop.

Ill answer your second question below.

NLTAP isnt going to have hand charts, it isnt that type of book. This book is about the poker theory that goes behind the decisions we make every hand we play, giving specific hand charts goes against this completely. They do give loose preflop guidelines I believe, but thats about it.

Your last part of this post is a little confused. IF we dont raise PPs it is so that we can play them for set value, by raising them we also give ourselves the option to take down the pot with a cbet.

I currently play 6max, but even at FR I raise any PP from any position. Hands like 77 and lower I will limp if there are 2 or more limpers; however from the button Ill still raise with a couple limpers.

All of my pocket pairs are profitable and more so than they were when I simply limped and played them for set value.
