    Default Raising Pre Flop....how often?

I think I have been getting in the habit of raising pre flop quite frequently and not just calling when I should. I am starting to think it is starting to waste too much money. I've heard about raising pre flop and being strong, but would you say the only time really worth that is when you have a great starting hand and possible if you think you are almost sure you can steal the blinds? Do you think, on average, you raise or call more often pre flop?

I depends on the hand / action so far / the table / position /my table image / etc.

    There are no averages

I see about 24% of flops and I raise maybe 6-7% of those, so by definition I must be calling 2/3 of the time, and I am happy with this. I also play pretty aggro after the flop - my aggression factor averages well over 3.

Is this aggro factor including pre flop aggression or not?

If I remember correctly, last time I checked I was something like 16/8 at full ring. So I'm coming in for a raise more often then a limp preflop (since some of the vpip is from the blinds).

checking in the BB doesnt add to VPIP since it isnt a volentary contribution.
Completing the SB does count though
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.

Betting out from the BB during the hand does add to VPIP, and it's something I do often at a table that likes to fold. Top pair or better = bet pottie, re-evaluate from there.

No, it's my post-flop aggression factor that's somewhere around 3.5. I basically don't make enough value bets - I am too scared of draws and bet big to take down pots too much.

15.6% VPIP and 5.4% preflop raise for me. I would like to raise more often, but I would rather play those medium PP for set impied odds.

I really think there should be a sticky at the top of this forum that says "Answer to all your poker questions" and then the thread will says nothing but IT DEPENDS in large letters.
    LOL OPERATIONS
