    Default Question

Is a +EV decision "no matter what" worth it by virtue of "being the right play" if it costs you nearly half of a buyin?

I saw John Duthie v Tom Dwan HU and Duthie made a very good fold, yet all the 2+2 guys were berating Duthie saying it was a bad fold, just because mathematically it was +EV (I think that's why it was anyway).

This is the hand you are talking about right?

It looks like an easy call until you actually use ranges to figure out you are beating nothing that plays the hand that way. That's why those 2+2 guys are stuck playing small stakes and Duthie is playing for millions.

Yeah, I was talking about that hand, and I was also talking about something bigspenda said on the microstakes video #3.

They are the bits I've quoted in my OP.

I don't understand the question, but I think I have an example that will answer it.

Let's flip a fair coin that's 50/50. If it comes heads, I'll pay you $12. If it comes tails, you pay me $10. The EV of each flip is $1 for you. Would you decline to take this offer because it "costs" you $10?

Hopefully you understand why this doesn't make sense unless you're on an exceptionally small bankroll. For example, if you only had $10 to your name. However, if you had $250 to your name, you would be stupid not to play as long as I would play with you.

That's what it does boil down to. My bankroll is half of the recommended bankroll for the limit I'm playing at, and I am trying my best not to add more of my own money in. Not because I can't afford to, but because I'd rather win it back.

If you're playing 2nl then good luck. If you're not playing 2nl, then you're being an idiot and should move down.

    I am indeed playing 2nl.

Then my advice would be to start listening to advice you get in this forum and stop acting like a child whenever someone doesn't agree with you because it's obvious that your way isn't working.

Please show me where I have done this.

If someone gets arsey and disrespectful with me, I do it back. Simple. If someone answers my questions in a respectful way and constructively criticises me, I accept it.

I think you'll find that trend throughout everyone of my posts.

I'm not gonna sit back and be spoken to like shit because I'm asking questions. If you don't like what I write, then do like you did in the other thread and just don't respond! That way we're both happy.

Flaming the chatbox cause they just don't get it
Easypoker, you must realize that nobody is trying to 'talk shit to you'. You really need to change your attitude because well..people like spoonitnow know more about poker than you. What you don't realize is that he's actually helping you. The things that you think of as offensive are actualy basic things you NEED to hear. I too was going into the forum thinking "wow, these guys won't give me a break" but now I'm very thankful for it and so should you.

And lastly: the useage of EV and ranges are unnegotiable, the whole world is based on math so why wouldn't poker?

    OMG POKERTRACKER IS RIGGED!

Don't think of it as everyone acting like dicks, it's more good-natured ribbing and no one really means anything by it. Well, maybe Spoon does from some of the posts I've read. But at least he tells it like it is and doesn't bullshit around. Go over to 2p2 and see how you like it over there. They'll teach you how to be a dick and break completely even over a million hands. You'll come crawling back here looking like this:

Listen...this is how poker players answer questions. We were all given shit back in the day and still do. It's for the best. Once you realize that then you'll actually start winning to your liking.
