I have to disagree with you edudlive. I think the flop call was excellent here. Your goal on the flop is NOT to protect a pair of fives which you believe to be ahead. I think you have to abandon that. If your opponent has a 7 or is drawing, then you'll be in trouble on 4th street if anything but a 5 drops. Your goal on this relatively draw free PAIRED flop with position is to mimick a slow play of trips until you confirm your opponents holdings. Your 55 is junk on this flop. It no longer becomes about your hand. It becomes about position and proper representation.
By flat calling the flop with position, you reserve the right to rep the 7 later if you feel he doesn't have it. Trips are played a variety of different ways by different people. Mostly they're slowplayed till at least the turn. If he doesn't have that 7, then he WILL allow you to represent it later and he WILL fold. If he does have the 7, then raising the flop is pointless since he'll just reraise you.
This is one of those times where raising early is incorrect. You want to stay cautious early while maintaining the look of a slowplay in case he submits himself to your representation. People give up too often on paired flops. If you have position on someone who flopped a vulnerable TP, then it's very easy to rake a modest pot with a power representation at the right time. This is a classic move in the bag of tricks. Add it to yours.
Now the turn magically improves our hero to a full house. Our hero has to be sure not to piss himself while laughing maniacally, and concentrate on the way the hand was already playing out. He still wants to know if the villain has a 7. He WAS going to fold if he confirmed the villain had it. The villain bets $8 into a $7 pot. Beautiful. It couldn't have worked out better. The plan WAS to fold if the 7 was present, but now our hero has the best hand AND knows exactly what the villain holds. YES! He holds a very strong second best hand! This is ALWAYS the time for our hero to push all-in and watch an instant call from a losing hand. This is no time for value betting.
