Default pretty new, how is my progress?

Since I discovered FTR (about exactly a week ago) I've been winning much more regularly, and am starting to really get excited about my earning potential. I've strictly been playing the 25NL at PP, and in a weeks time (13 hours of playing time) I've profited $391, for close to $30 bucks an hour. Actually, I went on a really bad run last night at if i would have quit when i was supposed to it would have been over $40/hr... Is this pretty good (at least for the limit I'm playing at), average or what?

I also seem to be pretty good at SnG's - (out of 5 I placed 2nd twice and 1st once) but I wonder if they are the best value for the time you spend? I've only tried the $10+1 just to get my feet wet...

I'm a numbers guy so I'm over here trying to project my earnings potential (the variance kills me, but I'm learning to deal with it)

    Any thoughts/insights would be appreciated!

The trick is not becoming overconfident after a good initial run. You had a good run, but it is too early to really tell whether it was luck, or skill. I'm not saying you are a bad player. I am speaking from personal experience. My very first deposit ever was after I had been playing for a week. I cashed in $50 and played some no limit. I doubled my money in the first hour, and I thought I was the bomb all night. Looking back on how I used to play [fish], I laugh on the inside. I was lucky, and when my luck ran out my lack of skill killed me. I find new leaks in my game all the time.

A way to gauge your progress is good record keeping.

Yeah, when I look back at myself i wondered how i thought i was so good...
I bought in before and went on some good runs (I've actually been playing online for about 5 months now) but it was really a roller coaster. Then I read a lot of tips on this site and changed a few basic things in my game (not cold calling, limping, and putting pressure on opponents), and read the tips on how to find a good table, and my winnings are definetly more consistent now. I felt like Neo in Matrix once I found this site... I saw PP in a whole new light, a cash cow waiting to be milked.

Anyways, I'm not trying to get over confident cause it still seems too good to be true, but I'm just wondering if this is a good start or not. I still have a ton of holes in my game, and anytime I have a loosing session I seem to be able to find exactly what I did wrong.

actually thats one of the holes in my game i need to fix... overconfidence. Once you think you've got it all figured out you loose a couple buy ins. The toughest part of this game is discipline (at least for me)

i hate to correct spelling and grammar again... but i think you mean lose not loose.

Anyways for me it was bad cause it all happened slowly and in a way where i still thought i was good.

Some very LOOSE players joined our home game and started raking in the cash. I was LOSING my buy in regularly, but i blamed it on them making horrible calls and drawing out (which was part of it). I waited for my "superior" play to win me money from them, but it never did. I visited this site, got some tips and have had healthy profits ever since.

I keep coming back here learning as much as i can, playing and applying it. Your only better than your competition when you beat them. It doesnt count if you "know" you are better than them.

Hey guys, this is a poker forum to improve poker; it is not to comment on people's grammar or spelling. If you're simply lost, here's your home: http://www.nonstopenglish.com/allexe...r-spelling.asp.
I apologize if I come off as harsh but this forum is a positive environment to learn poker and a lot of the posts in this thread are pointless.

    Sorry for the bitching.

Anyway, that's an amazing start, storm. As said before, don't let it go to your head. As a poker player, you're always learning to improve your game.

My biggest tip is to make sure you have bankroll management securely ingrained in your head. The biggest mistake, besides cockyness, of a shotgun start beginner is to interpret huge success as an indicator of playing higher stakes. There are so many things you need to learn how to deal with besides just playing poker at that instant at that table. Dealing with variance and a losing streak because of bad beats, while not your fault, will happen. Since you've had a great start, you don't know what it's like to grind it out and have patience. Like you said earlier, you should have quit but you kept playing. Why is that? I'm guessing tilt. You need to learn tilt management, etc. All of these aspects are part of your game and they need to be mastered or else no matter how well you play you're going to lose.

Regardless of poker skill or grammar mistakes, you're doing a great job based solely the girl in your avatar.

Poker can be deceptive. There will be times when it seems like you're a genius, and there will be other times when it seems like you don't even know how to play (I think a lot of that comes from falsely attributing the random element of the game to skill, or lack thereof). It can be tempting after a good run to assume that you're a lot better than you are, so I would allow for more time to pass before you get too confident about your play. Too much confidence can cost you money.

I have three pieces of advice:

    1) Use 50 some bucks of your winnings to purchase poker tracker to track your statistics, it WILL make you a better player, through your own observations and the observations it will show you of your opponents.

    2) Track your progress in a month or two months, a week means nothing, seriously, poker is a marathon, not a 100 yard dash.

    3) Overconfidence is a worse hand than 72os. And will have you playing poorly and when you lose, and consistenly lose (and you will, it happens to even the best players whether its a cold run of cards and getting blinded to death for a month or a hotrun of cards with bad beats) it will make your tilt even worse.

Just to throw my 2 cents in. I am also somewhat new to online poker, I started out on fire. Doubled my initial deposit + bonus money. I got poker tracker, and then started reading some. Sure enough I was playing like a fish, and was getting lucky.

I have since gone up and down some, but after reading this site and books, I feel I am a much better player, but only time will tell.

Never stop learning, you can not learn this game in a week or month, maybe not ever.

just my 2 cents, and that will not get you a small blind.

    Test.

Is it just quotes that don't work for you?

Maybe you have something in your profile selected off that shouldn't be...

Yah, in your profile. Selected "Allow BBcode" as "Yes" and that should solve the problem.
