    Default Pot/Implied Odds homework? Where?

I know that to learn poker you need to play it, but my biggest weakness is odds. I'd like to run through a bunch of odds "homework" or something similar to see if I'm making good or bad decisions (I know its impossible to simulate poker, but maybe you see what I'm getting at).

    Anything like this exist?

    Read Harrington On Hold'Em Vol 1 (HOH1)

Each chapter has exercises like what you've described.

yeah, the HOH books are good for this. If you have any hand histories saved on your PC, find some where people are betting into you and do the math.
eeevees are not monies yet...they are like baby monies.

Thanks. the only problem is, this is a tourney book. I'm already a pretty good tourney player and everytime i read things about tourney strategy it messes up my game.

is there any similar book, but for cash games? Cash is my weakness.

If I remember correctly there are some exercises in NL and Pot Limit Poker, written by Reuben and Ciaffone. The book is not only about Hold'em however. Not sure about NL - theory and Practice, anyone read it?

HOH 1 translates well to cash games. When I read it there were no real NL books available. HOH1 deals with pot odds, implied odds, and EV. It has quizzes, is that not what you asked?

HOH1 made my cash game 100% better overnight. It may not teach you all the moves you need for NL ring but it does a LOT of good in terms of calculating odds. It's also very readable. And I bet it would help your tourney game no matter how good you think you are

yeah read HOH1. Iv not been playing recently and am gonna re read HOH1 on odds as I often get lazy and ignore pot odds/ implied odds etc and am gonna re read this so its etched into my head... lol

    HOH1 is superb for this.

If this is the case, you ought to write a book.
I'd like to meet Jesus. Not because people claim he was the son of god, but because he could turn water into wine. A man like that is good to know, because you never know when you'll need a bottle of wine or an extra nail.

Nah, I didn't mean that arrogantly, I meant that it just throws my game. Maybe I don't understand their strategies, or that the MTT I play on the books' strategy isn't the best. I should also define pretty good as "enough to a little" -- after all, I am posting in the beginners circle here...

I'm getting the Harrington book based on overwhelming reccomendation. Thanks!

You've already been berated for saying this so I won't say it again

I would get Sklansky and Miller's "No Limit Hold'em - Theory and Practice". I am reading it now - it is a bit heavy going but the concepts are absolutely solid gold.

I echo everything the others said about the Harrington books too - vols 1 and 2 are fantastic. I bought them recently as a wedding present for a friend of mine who is already a very good tourney player and he got a whole lot out of them.

I knew what you meant. Just giving you shit. But honestly, if using new strategies, new ways of playing, etc didn't make you feel odd then chances are you actually aren;tdoing things different. The discomfort is a good sign.

ha, i guess getting shit comes with being a newb. thanks for taking the time to write the 'obvious' answers.

my cash game lately has been stronger thanks to all the advice here. especially when someone told me I played scared and needed to increase my bet size. growing a pair of balls really has helped

that and stopping chasing draws and realizing chasing flushes has a much lower implied odds than I previously thought (its too obvious)
