Am relatively new, and trying to get my head around the concept of pot odds after the flop. Let me throw out an example to set up my questions.

Assume pot is 1000 after the flop, and lets just say 500 of it is mine for simplicity sake. I'm head to head, and I get a 500 bet thrown at me.

I understand about counting the outs, but what pot total do I compare my outs to? Is it the original 1000, is it the 1000 + his 500? Or is it the 1000 + his 500 plus my potential 500? Or even the 1000 +500 +500 less my original 500?
