Default Pocket Jacks - a strong hand or just another medium pocket pair?

10NL game, pretty tight, except for one or two loose players. SB was one such player.

    Button Hero ($7.47)
    CO ($14.48)
    SB SB ($3.89)
    UTG ($1.97)
    UTG+1 ($6.06)
    MP ($5.49)
    MP ($10)
    MP ($11.29)
    CO-1 ($2.90)
    CO ($3.26)

Preflop: Hero is on the Button with Js Jc
3 folds, MP calls 0.10, 2 folds, Hero raises to 0.50, SB calls 0.45, 2 folds.

    Flop (1.20) 2c 2d 8h
    SB bets 1.20,

    Hero??

Your 'trained eye' puts SB on pocket pairs? I assume you were talking about the limper (who's not even the main villain) but both villains have ranges much wider than just pps. Please stop misleading people who don't know any better into thinking that you're good at poker by saying things like that.

OP I think you played this fine, your hand is way too strong on this board to ever think of folding to a 40BB'er, especially if he's loose like you say.

This shit is spot on. Dude has 39bb preflop... I'm not folding JJ on 822 to a fish. He's going to have worse than 88 or a deuce way too often to ever think about folding.

Why doesn't hero have 100bb stack?

    Ok.
    I guess sudden pot sized aggression = 88 2x A8 AX 99+ . Bluffs. Reads are handy.
I honestly struggle here , even with stats , so often Ive called to see 24s etc here.

Pocket jacks are one of my least favorite hands. They look too good to be played like a medium pocket pair.

I definitely need to invest in a poker software. Stats are really important in such situations i feel. Anyway, I put the villian on 8-x or a donk bluff. I didnt think he had a monster coz otherwise he probably would have wanted to check-raise me.

    Flop (1.20) 2c 2d 8h
SB bets 1.20, Hero calls 1.20.

    Turn (3.60) 5c
SB bets 2.19, Hero calls 2.19.

    River (7.98) 7h

    SB shows Qh Qd
    Hero shows Js Jc

Reads more important here than stats. This is where good note taking comes in (which I suck at).

new note: flatted QQ oop, donked super dry flop

Thats the advice I got from a couple of other places as well. Before today, I never actually used to think about Stack to Pot ratio. Need to research a bit more about it.

I started off with 30 BBs SSS. Playing tight aggressive. But my stats would suggest I'm a nit.

You mentioning "one of my least favorite hands being JJ" , reminds of this.

Thought id throw that in to compensate my misleading input.

Your information on villain is...nonexistent. But he made a pot sized bet. Therefore, shove.

This is just an auto shove for me on the flop given his stack size.

i think the hand is played fine. flat the flop and leave him rope to stick the rest in on the turn with any bluffs or 8x.
