Hi, I have read loads of the articals on this site and it has helpedunderstand the game better. The problem is i get a little confusedas sometimes people say the bets thing to do is X and then anther person say no its Y

Im playing in a Ring game in a few days and i would be grateful if someone with experince of winning could give me a solid idea of how best to play the game to win.

Some info on the players= There are 9 posibly 10 players.

    Types of player

    Loose/aggresive = 1 reackless
    tight/agressive =3
    tight/passive=1
    tightish/agressive 1
loose/agressive= 1 but knows what he is doing best player

    2 or 3 unknowns

whats the best place to sit in tearms of position?
whats the best stategy to play as 1st and 2nd both get cash. I want to make it to the money then just go for it.

Some specific question are about strong hands as these really hurt meif i miss flop with AK for example do i continue if they bet?

how best to play small pairs in early game?

play suited cards? early in the night

when to change gears in terms of number of people around 4? or just camp for 2 then attack?

    Thanks

who cares. Just play AA-22 and fold everything else and only play big multi-way pots past the flop with sets and u will win a ton at whatever u play 25NLor below.

I came from "home" games to online recently. Since it is a home came and the hand count will low, sticking to the basics is fin, as Ace said. Also value connectors and flush opportunities, nothing hit on the flop toss it. You do not want 2 middle pairs or Top Pair little Kicker. Some "home" games everyone will see to the flop and everyone checks, turn, everyone checks, river Bets start flying. Only go in with "grade A hands" in this situation. Full house, Straight , Possible Trips if the betting is weak.

Fnord wrote an Article on B&M Casino Play, Alot of the same rules apply, Should really read that one.

When it gets to heads up, ANY PAIR!, Any 2 A K Q J Pretty much anything suited, nothing comes on the flop toss it . . . If you have any Online poker software installed, Check out the middle limit heads up Sit and Goes, (you can install for free )...... Then watch their actions. MOST OF IT will be advanced but you will see what cards they get agressive with and the choices they make... you may not get to see the cards if they muck but the board SHOUDL speak for its self

Trying to find the best position on the table based on your reads really is futile in your case man. Read Aok's advice and stick to it by the letter until you start to understand things from experience.

Best position: On Button. Next best positions are the seats to the right of the button. Worst spot are those to the left of the button. Position is important because of information. You gather more information by acting last.

Best strategy(tight, loose, etc.): depends on the players you are playing against, stack sizes, position, table image, etc. (there is no definitive best style).

Changing gears:You can do this throughout the game with or without less players. It's good to change it up to keep your opponents off track on what style you are playing that night. The less players = hands worth more. example: KT is shit with ten people but a monster with 3 or 4.

Play small pockets for sets only early in the night. Later on though, they tend to be strong hands.

Suited connectors: see the flop for CHEAP ONLY. Don't call big raises with them.

    Yup.

The most important thing to know ahead of time is the blind structures, and how fast they will move up.

so you're playing a small Home tournament? I have no advice on this site for that. I've played them, and ummm ... they are absolutely and totally unpredictable. The play is dominated by stupidity and luck. The blinds go up too fast, the field is too small and luck separates the skillful from their money. (and of the 3 I've played I finished 2nd in one to a guy who played in the US Poker Open in Tunica MS the next year. One I brain farted my way out of, and the other some monkey got lucky.)

My best advice is to make people commit as much money as they can as fast as possible when you have QQ, KK, AA. Don't leak money away playing speculative hands once the blinds are any substantial size. And have patience. YOU WILL get a big pocket pair and a chance to double up. Or you WILL get some other great hand IF, and only IF, you have patience and wait for it to come.

There are times when you're going to feel "behind" because monkey are throwing chips back and forth at each other like crazy. Get in one big hand per hour and win it, and you'll make the final table (or near the money). Then it's a matter of experience (which you don't have) or luck (which can come calling). But, FIRST play good cards. THEN be agressive with them. If you can avoid going up against STRENGTH. It's better to push around a weak player with garbage (if necessary) than it is to call someone who's pushing chips at you. Make sense?

REad the MTT forum or SNG forums. Good luck. But, honestly Winning is a longshot. Staying late is based on playing great cards for lots of chips and hoping no one gets lucky against you.

if you DO find yourself in the final 3 with a decent stack of chips. Fold fold fold. Let the other 2 go at each other. If you get great cards then make them pay to see them. If you want to steal their blinds, then you have to go at them with enough chips that it will hurt if they call and are wrong. If you get to final 3 with a short stack then you're going to have to gamble up. Don't raise, PUSH. Ifyou want to steal, PUSH. If you have AA push. If they are folding to you PUSH. Don't go in for half your stack. You're going to have to get lucky if you're the short stack of 3 final players - especially if the big stack is huge.

only 2 get paid out of the 9 or 10, so edgeing into the money is out of the question (crap strat anyway) so make sure u stay ultra aggressive (selectively) and play for FIRST... try not to let yourself get short stacked (8-10 bigblinds) and if you are at this level then the only play is to push alling preflop - hopefully picking up the blinds. I think with having to hit 1st or 2nd to land ITM together with the (no doubt) fast clock, you have to do more than camp for premiums and sets.. especially when the blinds are high you need to steal the weakies blinds as much as poss, and some.
