Playing low cards

I'm a newbe in poker...

Sometimes I play the low cards just to hide my thight style.
I play hands like 4-5s 5-6s 6-7s 7-8s then...

How should you play this kinds of hands?

Only in a good position? But then you will still appear very tight and easy to read.

Call a small pre-flop raise? And then hope for the best...

Should you try to raise out everyone else if you have two pairs after the flop, and take the smaller pot?

Should you never play them? But then you only see maybe one flop / h...

I'm assuming that since this isn't in the limit forum you're talking about no limit.

I *love* these hands. Where I want to be with a hand like this is calling a reasonable (not huge) raise preflop from a BIG stack when I also have a big stack. They are easy to get away from if you miss, but hold HUGE implied odds if you hit something as small as 2-pair.

However.

It's important to keep in mind that the max buy-in on some sites (I'm thinking of Party specifically) keeps you from having the implied odds to be making these plays against most raises. I generally try to play stronger hands until I can get close to doubled up, then look to play these kinds of hands against another big stack.

The reason you mentioned (keeping players from pegging you as a rock) is also a good reason to play these hands.

I really love playing these hands too - the small suited connectors.
In NL the reason small suited connectors are a great hand to play is as TylerK said because of the massive implied odds you will be getting.

If you got 45s and the flop comes up 236, 55x or something as monstrous as that, then if your opponent has got bullets or cowboys then you are going to probably walk away with his entire stack!

If im in late position and only say 2 people called then Ill probably fold, otherwise Ill limp in with them.

Implied odds:

Last week playing a home tournament. Friend of mine gets 25o on the big blind and checks it when the pot goes unraised. I was playing K6o and had limped in (we were short-handed... ordinarily K6o goes right in the trash).

Flop: K34 rainbow. He bets a small amount and I double it, thinking he's on a weak king (like me) and I can force him off. He calls.

Turn: 6. To me, this is the money card. Top two pair, right? He's just got a king, right? He bets pot-sized, I put him all-in and he calls with his completely unexpected straight. Doesn't knock me out of the tourney but it may as well have, and of course he doubled up. Now *those* are good implied odds for 25o.
