Pitfalls of slowplay?

This is a made up hand but it happens often enough I want some advice on how to handle it.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.02 BB (7 handed) converter

Hero ($2.70)
BB ($3.04)
UTG ($0.75)
MP1 ($2.70)
MP2 ($2.23)
CO ($5.87)
Button ($5.63)

Preflop: Hero is SB with J, T.
UTG calls $0.02, MP1 calls $0.02, MP2 calls $0.02, 2 folds, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($0.10) J, J, 6 (5 players)

Assume it is checked around to you (if this same thing happened when you were in LP). What are the risks if you check to disguise your trips and bet the turn. There were no preflop raises so if everyone folds here I win almost nothing. I know that at my level most everyone bets what they have and they don't look for people being tricky. That means that if someone bets that flop then they give you credit for the worst possible (trips) and they fold.

I don't know. In my experience, playing at the low level buy-ins. people expect you to slow play a J here. Leading out usually gives the impression that you are protecting your 6 or a small pp. Plus, if u are willing to check here, u have to be prepared for the fact that your big hand is at threat from the flush or u are hoping for the board or your ten to pair.

I have tried betting out the flop here and I get folds all around. Betting the turn does better but like you said, bigger chance to get screwed. So I quess the question is, do I loose often enough checking the flop to make betting the flop worth it. I don't know the answer.

Edit: further thought. Perhaps it is better to bet the flop (enough to ruin chase odds) if only two suits are represented (flush possible). That way you get chasers to come along. If the flop is rainbow, you check and bet the turn. Good idea?

You don't have to follow this rule strictly, but yes, that's a good general idea. Slowplay only when there is a low chance of being outdrawn.

I think it is too dangerous to slowplay this hand in this sitation.
There is a flush draw, and the possibility of another J with a better kicker, plus the off chance of pocket 6s.
Five players saw the flop and it is micro limits, if somebody has anything that remotely resemble a decent hand you will be called

i bet to disguise. may not work every time, but i find most of the time if someone else doesn't have a hand you don't get paid anyway, and when you do get a caller you'll be playing for stacks.
