    Default People folding on the river instead of checking...

    what in the world is up with that???

    Preflop = he checks, I bet, he calls
    Flop = he checks, I bet, he calls
    Turn = he checks, I bet, he calls
    River = he folds.

    I can understand folding to even a minibet on the river, but not folding instead of checking.

    after all, i could have been on a missed draw as well....

    While I like thoes players, I dont understand it. check/fold is a free chance to win the hand over just fold... even if it only works I time out of 100, thats still one time that you win.

    I see it when the pot is multiway and they don't what to show their cards. After all, seeing what they played does give you some information for future hands.

    was just me and him in this case..

    It's not like it was a 4 way pot that some had to have something.

    If they have two under cards to the board...like if they had 34s, and the lowest card on the board is a 5...I think its a safe bet to say you have them beat with 6 high or better, and they don't want you to see their hand. Thats the only case i can think of that its worthwhile to fold when you can check.

    I fold any hand on the river that I am 10000000% sure that I have not won. Like Journey75 said, this almost always from the blinds.

    I'd say I might fold one or two hands on the river to no bet per playing session, so I dont do it very much...after all, your 8 high might just be good! You never know

    EDIT: Acutally I am going to railroad this topic a little. What do you think about people folding hands off the flop to no bet? I've never done this myself because of the "runner trips or 2-pair draw", but occasionally I see other people do this, usually when the flop is high and cordinated. Thoughts?

    People who do this are often playing 16 tables at once. If your hand is so bad that the time spent playing it could be more profitably spent analyzing another hand, I guess it's rational to fold out of turn. I never do it though.

    reminds me of this time a newb joined our home game and kept folding his BB before the flop to no raise. then we had this hand where the river put four hearts on the board, and he again chucked his cards without provocation in EP. i bet my 6 and beat my friend who called with the 5. a guy who was standing behind the newb said, "why did you fold, man?!" we retrieved his hand from the muck and he had the J!! we laughed at that guy for 2 weeks afterwards.

    i've folded on the flop when i've had low/middle connectors and the flop comes out face or high cards all of a different suit
