    Default Overconfident

I start off perfect, playing tight, only betting when I hit TPTK or better. I don't chase anythign unless its already a big pot and someone bets the minimum (.25). Usually within 15-20 minutes of tight play, I've doubled my money. That's when everything goes to hell.

After I've doubled up, it seems as though every time I call with TPTK, someone has me outgunned, and I can't figure out why. I think that perhaps the fact that I'm up makes me overconfident, and I ignore certain things, like reraises, but I haven't noticed a certainty one way or the other.

My question to y'all is this: Is there an easy way to rid myself of overconfidence, and if overconfidence isn't the problem, what is the most likely cause, with the limited info I've given you?

I used to get this. In tournaments I used to play well at the beginning and get far, then when I was in the money with a large stack I would start playing bad hands out of position, chasing more and risking more chips. I think you have to really look at your play when you become overconfident, to see where you are going wrong.

Just because you 2x buy in at table, or a large stack in a tournament doesn't mean you can play crap hands or play out of position.

Yeah it does, especially with a big stack in a tourney. However, you have to respect people playing back at you, and if too many people play back at you to make running over the table profitable, then you have to tighten up (or find another table).

You seem to be VERY structured, maybe people end up getting a very good read on you, and act accordingly.

    Just a thought.

"Usually within 15-20 minutes of tight play, I've doubled my money."

If you play tight for 15-20 minutes you should be playing roughly 4 hands.... think back, are you getting tptk or better on the first four hands you play consistently?

Do you mean that you're constantly being outgunned by straights/flushes/sets/full houses, or you're constantly being outgunned in the sense that you say have second pair, or tp good kick, and someone else has top pair or tptk or two pair and you call them down?

How often do you find yourself raising?

If i am heading down the wrong path, i don't mean to offend. If you really are just getting beaten bad, then i recommend playing more, and valuing TP less. most money isn't made off top pair, its made off better hands like sets or better. Top pair should be played fast, and generally wins small pots. If you have TPTK, and someone pushes at you, its safe to just fold it, because nobody else is going to be pushing without better.
