    Default Outs Calculator...

    Hey EV1,

Figured I would ask this question, I have been playing for quite some time and still have 1 problem.....I have a hard time counting outs in my head. I can look at the board and see obviousley what I need to win, but I cant quite narrow it down to a certin number of outs. Does anybody know of a quick way to calculate how many outs you have? (maybe a chart) ar a simple formula? would be appreciated.

Experience and practice. Thats all it takes. Keep at it.

It just takes some time. I can't help you to count outs, but I can help youin calculating the percentages of those outs.

If you've seen the flop, and there's two cards to come, multiply your outs by 4. That'll give you a very rough idea of your odds.

After the turn, multiply quickly by two.

It's not an EXACT percentage, but it'll get you close enough to make an informed decision.

As far as counting outs, just remember common numbers... If you've got four to a flush, that's 9 outs. OESD = 8 outs... etc. You'll get the hang of it.

There are three basic ones that you just should know.

    1) Flush draw (you need one more suit for a flush) = 9 outs
    2) OESD (open end str8 draw - e.g. you hold 89 and flop is 267) = 8 outs
    3) Two over cards (e.g. you have AK and flop is 259) = 6 outs

Other than that, it really is just a matter of practice. Also, the more you play the more you realize that some of those outs which you had been counting, might not be clean outs.

Also a little better for 2 cards is 4 * outs - (outs over 8). So your about 44-3 = 41% for 11 outs or 60-7=53 for 15 outs. Gets a little distorted past 8 outs w/o an adjustment. 8 outs or below just multiply by 4.

Good formula... both will work in a pinch.
