    Default Notes to Myself

I have a bit of a teflon brain. Things don't stick very well at times. So recently I started a little project of writing notes about things I should remember when playing this game. Comments are welcome.

    Poker Notes to Myself:

    To wait is to win.

    Thou shalt not chase.

Gaps can be fallen through. (do NOT play 68s)

    Unsuited cards are, well, unsuited.

Aggression is one thing (can help you win) hyper mania is something else (looses most of the time)

Loose” can mean a lot of things: The bolt is “loose”, The bottle cap is “loose”, I fell and my tooth is “loose”. Isn’t it amazing how many times “loose” is a BAD thing?

For low limit players: Yes, he really DOES have the flush. Respect big bets.

Desperation (a very short stack in a SnG) can breed insanity. People shy away from insanity. This can be used to your advantage.

All-in” can also mean “All-gone”. Use with caution, but use it when appropriate.

BankRolls are magic. They can disappear REAL fast. Play what you can afford.

Guess what? Second best hands DON’T WIN!

Another “guess what?” Two pair is usually a second best hand.

Little kickers don’t kick very far.

Little pairs are just that … little.

Hold-Em is a HIGH card game. Hint: 7 is NOT a high card.

    More to come.

Hmmm ... maybe I'm falling through the gaps. I play these (depending on position and pre-flop action).

Do other people play these profitably?

Thanks for the insightful and funny post.

For the record, I don't play suited once gappers either, but SSH recommends to in loose games, late position, and not against a raise. All the way down to 53s. Page 83, for those that have it.

Guess I'm playing too tight skipping these opportunities.

You're not. But you should get a limit junkies opinion on this. It would have to be a super loose table by online standards to play those hands profitably.

I believe that loose is defined a 6-8 seeing the flop on average...

I have just under 15k hands at very loose games. If these cards can be played +EV over time, it is going to take a long time to have enough hands to really know for sure. I am currently playing several of them profitably.

    J9s, T8s, and 75s.

The others (with the exception of 53s) show between a.02 and .04 bb/hand loss.

This is way too few hands to know for sure, but it does give some information. The higher ones play better than the lower ones. The lower ones are marginally profitable at best and their value increases as the hand value increases. It doesn't show any definite statistically, but does kind of give an idea.

I think as many as the top half of these could be +EV provided you play well post-flop and are sitting at the lossest of tables.

Every bet/check/fold/call you make in poker has an Expected Value.

    +EV gooooood.

    Variant:

There's a reason why internet people often typo "loose" for "lose"...
Note: new guy and very open to constructive criticism, so go ahead and weigh in! I'm here to learn.
