Default A nit makes a surprise shove (5NL)

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (5 handed) - PokerStars Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com

    UTG ($6.63)
    Hero (MP) ($9.35)
    Button ($5.93)
    SB ($5.27)
    BB ($8)

Preflop: Hero is MP with J, K
UTG bets $0.20, Hero calls $0.20, 1 fold, SB calls $0.18, 1 fold

    Flop: ($0.65) 8, Q, A (3 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero checks

    Turn: ($0.65) 10 (3 players)
SB bets $0.30, UTG calls $0.30, Hero raises to $1.10, SB calls $0.80, 1 fold

    River: ($3.15) A (2 players)
SB bets $3.97 (All-In), Hero chuckles.

BB is a 12/10 nit, I haven't seen any real aggression from him till this hand. So BB probably called here with no worse than ATo preflop. It really depends now on whether we think he got to this river with AJ and decided to suicide shovel it in. Without AJ in his river shoving range, this is a fold assuming he does this with {88,TT,AK,AQ,AT,KJs}. With AJ included it becomes a marginally +EV call.

Before people start discounting flopped sets and two pairs, note that villain leads the turn, which is exactly what a missed check/raise would do.

Pretty clear river fold as played. Your turn raise size is too small as well.

naw, UTG was a loose bigass whale whose range KJo is doing ok against. villain in the bb.

    yes turn sizing too small.

ok cool, i'm not a super nit for folding if you guys think it's so clear cut.

we're 5-handed so villain is really in the HJ. i'd say KJo would be the bottom of my range if i chose to flat it (definitely wouldnt call KTo or KTs) but it could be a better candidate to just fold or 3b as a bluff? i don't hate the call but it may be leaky.

edit: ignore. i adopted kiwi's mistake in thinking villain was uTG

well i've been calling him BB all this time, but he's SB. I coulda ninja edited so nobody noticed, but now that's all too late.

If the turn raise was too small....what would have been appropriate?
  12. #12
well seeing SB's awkward shove size means i didn't size it well so that i can shove the rest in in a less than potsized bet.

My raise was about 1/2 pot. A turn pot-sized raise is to 1.85, so maybe in around 1.40 would do?? What do you guys think?

Fold river as played. I'd fold pre-flop as well.

To give the KJo flat some context, the raiser was running 60/20 so I think flatting is fine.
  15. #15
It doesn't seem as bad then, was his normal raise size 4x? If his standard open is 3x and he 4x'd it UTG then i hate the flat call.

lol 60/20s aren't positionally aware (usually)

Enough so that the river bet size isn't more than the pot.

I would of folded KJo preflop vs the utg raise. Also i think river is a fold i think this is usually a fh.

he's not UTG, this is 5 handed, the villain is a whale. I wish people adding things to the thread would maybe add original content instead of repeating a bunch of shit that has been said before.

    Default but llyiclat

I would prefer to 3bet preflop with KJo vs a 60/20 for value and to iso. As played with your info i call.

If you had said KJo 3bet as a bluff I might have agreed. His fold to 3bet was high so his continuing range crushes our hand. Because he's folding enough here (i believe at this point fold to 3bet was 100%), 3betting would have been probably immediately +ev, the question is whether we find more +ev spots postflop by flatting, which i guess is a close-ish call.

sorry thought you stated in earlier post that utg was the whale id be 3betting him for value, the nit is the caller in the blinds is that correct ?

Why does it matter if it's 5 handed, i thought you said "lol 60/20s aren't positionally aware". Do you really think he's adjusting his opening ranges due to the fact it's 5 handed? I don't. He probably thinks he's UTG, and if he raised larger than normal i would insta-snapfold, if he opened for his normal size i still prefer folding or 3-bet bluffing to calling.

I don't know why you are doubting my reads so much.

This villain in particular, according to my reads, was not positonally aware ,at all. A hand that I forgot about when making this thread but I'm now reminded of came up, where he limp reraised me with Q9s and proceeded to spew money postflop. He also limp/shoved vs some shortie from UTG with AQo. If AQ is actually more in his limping range despite his very wide UTG opening range, then I feel like actually calling with KJ becomes more and more appealing...

lol something that just caught my eye now is his 100% vpip utg.

He is a whale, and we've seen him fold to 3bets already, and we are not certain how strong a hand he feels is necessary to continue to a 3bet since well, the sample size is a bit small. But since we already know that his continue range to 3bet != 100% of his PFR range, we can assume that we will fold out some portion of the weaker end of his range. How well is KJo faring vs that?

Very scary river card. I think it's a tough fold but you gotta lay it down.

In hindsight, raising more on the turn would've been better in my opinion. Then it would be easier to put him on a two-pair-type hand that hits the full house on the river
