    Default newbie questions

Hi, i spent a lot of yesterday reading this forum and decided to sign up because i learned so much..

I read the sticky post "The Newbie Cirlce of Death" and it seems to apply well to me (been playing for 2 months).although my big win came from finishing 3rd in a tournament and then i gradually lost it on money tables.

I find myself doing some things which when i re-think may or may not be wrong be wrong...

    i play at .10/.20 NL

When unraised i find myself raising JJ higher than AA to try and force people out to stand a better chance, where as i see it more profitbale to bet less with AA (.80 with JJ, .40 with AA)- is this a correct theory?

I dont have a clear view on what to do when AK doesn't hit and i am 1st to act e.g i raise .80 pre flop (correct?)..2 callers..flop : 369 rainbow.
Could they have pp's or do i raise and go for the pot i have built?

I have been experimenting with Turbo tables because there seem to be more fish who get rushed by the time, however i cant calculate pot odds at this speed (7 seconds per go) - what are your experiences of turbo play..should i wait til i am more experienced?

I always seem to stuggle with 1 on 1s (when waiting for more players or if i sumhow get to the end of a tournament)- Starting hands guides i have tried just don'tseem to work with 1 on 1s and the more aggressive seems to win, how can i combat this?

Sorry that these topics are all so different

    Cheers,
    Will

    At work so can't go into too much detail;

For heads up play search in the tournaments section. I'd recommend staying away from HU ring until you're more experienced, in tournaments it pays to be very aggressive with lots of pushing.

AK...looks like you should put more emphasis on position. In early position with overcards such as this I'd lead out as you were the original raiser. Bet half - three quarters of the pot and let it go if you are re-raised.

JJ, AA...I prefer to raise the same amount whenever I am opening the betting. Doesn't mean I'm right, but it's my preference. In early position play JJ cautiously, hope for a set or overpair. It's a tough hand to play. In later position raise with it. AA I raise as normal. At micro limits a bigger raise is best to isolate as people play with crap. Re-re-raise or push if you are re-raised, depending on number in hand and size of pot.

I'd say your best bet is to find a site with small buy-in SNGs to start with, unless you have a strong preference for ring games. They give you a lot of hands with a small exposure to risk. I started that way, moved over to ring and then moved back as I love them so much. Read the two strategy guides sticked in the SNG section and go and kick ass.

Oh, and stay away from Turbos...if you can't calculate the outs/odds there isn't much point.

Also, keep records and find out which games you win most money on...always helpful!

It's one correct theory. It's a decent one -- take the blinds. But you can switch it up, too -- limp, flat raise -- keep 'em guessing.

Like stewartkev said, but you can switch this one up too. Play it like aces when it doesn't hit, check it other times, so they don't think you are always buying the pot.

like he said again, if you can't do the odds in time, don't play turbos.

There are some hand hx and threads here at FTR with good advice for HU play.
    I'm a know-it-all.

Regarding your question about heads up play, check out the links in the following thread:

Minraising AA at those limits will invite hands to break yours all the time. standard 3-4xBB raise is still warranted with AA. Get it down heads up, you're more likely to win that way.
