    Default New begining

I have been playing online for about 6 months now. I began with a $40 deposit to pacific Poker. I worked it up to about $600 and then got a little cocky and lost down to about $170. After a bit of play I got it too about $280 or so and it has been hovering around that point for awhile now. I have been on a downswing for a couple days now and i have withdrawn $200 to my neteller account. I still have some small amounts in several rooms but i will use these to play sit n gos and just to have fun with the game, maybe learn a new game at the micros. I dont know.
However, the $200 in neteller is a differant thing. I would like to turn this into a substantial bankroll. I am going into this as a fresh start and a total begginer. My goal is simple, $3000. 30 buyins at $100 nolimit.
I hope that by posting this i will stay diciplined in my approach to this. I would like to know which sites some of you would recomend to start and possibly what limits. I will probably play mainly $10 NL (.05/.10) and maybe .25/.50 limit. Any bonuses which can be cleared at this level of play would be helpful. I will be posting hands from this conquest in the appropriate forums here and studying all i can. Ill post my progress every other day or so just to keep myself honest. Sorry so long winded and boring but i do apreciate the help you all give here at this forum

    Default Do microlimits first

I highly recommend you play limit for a while to rebuild your bankroll while finetuning your game.A $600 to $280 swing is pretty hefty, and I'm not sure if NL(or even PL) is the game you want to play while you're trying to rebuild.I recommend you take that $200 and play the microlimits at PokerStars(or any other site that offers limits under the Party Skins .50/1 tables. When you get that to about $500 you can hit up a Party skin then.

I started off playing NL as well;in hindsight now I realize I was both underbankrolled for the limits and inexperienced;my PT stats remind me of that everyday(it's a humbling experience to look at every time I update my logs). However I think grinding it out at the microlimits will prove both educational and less stressful for you to rebuild, and will give you time and room to grow.

yeah that was a big swing. Thing is I got it there in about 2 hours and left it there 2 hours later. I never had it sustained there. I was playin $100 Nl with a $200 BR. (ouch) Your right about playing limit, Thats what i am gonna do so I can work on the math of the game for awhile.
On a side note the extra money I had left in the sites was put to good use. 3 sit n gos with 2 firsts and a second. So that money is actually around $100 right now. I have not yet began on the $200 in neteller as i am still prepping myself for it. Would like to reread Small Stakes Holdem first as well as any advice i receive here. I think I will be starting at Pokerstars, Would you deposit all of the money there at one time. I think in the past I have had money in too many places. (probably 6 or 7 sites all with just a little except paradise or UB)Thanks again

stay with NL. That's your game.

it sounds like you have a game, but you have discipline problems. Limit will only make it worse. here's the question for you to ask yourself. Am I playing for FUN or for MONEY? If you're doing it for money, then do the right thing EVERY TIME, every day every hand. If you're playing for fun then WTF does it matter?

    good luck

definetly money, definetly a dicipline problem. That is why i am either publicly hanging myself or changing this problem. Will be playing the first session tonight, results and hand histories to follow!

    Default Yeah

Would you deposit all of the money there at one time.
Yeah,my bankroll is always either in a Party skin,or sitting in Neteller(unless I'm taking a break in which case I dump it back into my checking account until the next reload rush).

I recommend playing PokerStars for a while, and then when you're ready you can hit up the Party skins to take advantage of their usual reloads.

OK first session down, Played micro NL at pokerstars .01/.02. I like that the max buyin is $5 instead of $2 like other sites. I played ok did not catch many cards. A couple of key hands included ...
Player in mid position calls 2 more follow I raise on the button with AQs. (4xBB) All limpers call. Flop comes AT9 Rainbow. First player min raises folds to me, I reraise the pot he just calls. At this point I am a little concerned about the min raise smooth call. Turn is a dud. He checks I take a free card because I smell a rat for sure here, hes not playing like he has been. river is another dud he checks I bet the pot he just calls and shows down AK.
reraised TT to 4x BB with 2 callers, flop is 2 suited with an A and Q, early player moves all in, I fold..
Did pick up 55 with a flop of Q59 early player min bets 2 fold i move him all in for about half of my stack, (the flop was 2 suited and I felt he was drawing) He calls, and loses does not show cards.
Ill get some actual histories posted tonight after work .
BR so far:$201.89 ( small progress but progress)

I'm in the same shoes as you on this ... went from rags ($50.00) to riches ($700.00) and back to rags ($0.00) in about a 4 month period and now starting over at Pokerstars due to the low limits. I too tried playing at the .01/.02 tables and found that I just didn't care about losing $0.20 so I would play marginal hands and sometimes just utter crap.. I moved up to .05/.10 6 max and I can feel at least a little challenged when I'm playing for a few $$'s.. anyhow I have worked from $50.00 to $300.00 in about a month of steady play.. so it can be done. I'm doing it strictly by the book .. not playing over my limits , not playing on tilt and so far it seems to be working fine. Good luck on your pursuit.. hopefully I'll see you sometime way in the future at the $200 tables

Good luck as well, I have also been playin a little at the 6 max .05/.10 tables i just do not use any of the $200 for this project. It seems to help when i feel like im not being aggresive enough.

Well i havent been playing much lately due too work but tonight i did get in a couple hours. Turned out well and picked up a few decent cards. I realy feel good about my game now, since begining this post i have been a ble to keep myself diciplined. Tonight i took my $200 at Pokerstars up to $231.96 from i think about $202 or so. The main thing i feel i need to work on is the middle of the road starting hands like KQo or ATo when i hit just a little on the flop. I dont overplay them but i think i may be leaving some $$ out there. Picked up Harringtons book Vol1 also. Pretty good so far. worth the read.

Quick morning session (20 minutes) BR is at $251.31 plus i won a little at some of the other sites i play at as well. Im gonna try to get them to withdrawl levels and add them to my PS stake. Thanks for the help and encouragement on this forum. Have some hand histories to post this evening, Is there a hand converter here for Poker Stars? How do i use it if so?

I'm going to respectfully disagree with ya Whoo. The best way to (re)build a BR, whether your a good player or bad (undisiplined), is to take advantage of bonuses while you play. Since Stars has no bonus going on, I'd consider some of your other options.

Well another quick session after work and although small it is another step in the right direction. BR at stars is at $264.81. That makes a $63 step in the right direction in what amounts to about 2 hours time. I feel like my play has been solid with few mistakes. The pots I have been winning have been large in comparison with the table averages and any pots i get into that i do not win have been at a minimal loss. I attribute alot of this to the posters here at FTR, thanks alot guys I definetly appreciate it.
To critisise myself a little i think an area of my game that needs help is when i should be going for overcalls. I have a habit of checking when i have a very strong hand and know that my opponents are weak hoping for someone to raise, when they do i usually reraise running everyone else who would have called the original raise and causing the raiser to tighten up or fold. I guess its not to major a fault but i know that it is something i need help with. If anyone has a god handhistory or to with some good examples of overcalls i would like to look them over.
On a side note i am not playing further tonight despite winning because i am tired as hell. Dicipline? WOW!!! How neat!

Morning update: PS Br is at 284.30 after a 3 orbit session. I didnt have very long to play and i wanted to look at a few hand histories this morning. The cards are still coming pretty good and i do not expect to continue at this rate but it has been a nice boost. I think my total Br is somewhere around $350 or so , i think a nice short term goal would be get to $500 in the next 2 weeks. If i can get my playing time up to about 2 or 3 hours a day i should be able to get there if the cards hit me at all.

Nice Lc, never had a royal yet!!!!
Like the way you bet this hand cant belive the othe rplayer got so deep into the hand with 9,9 and two aces on the flop when the spades kept falling scrolled down to see if he had a spade, when i saw he didn't couldnt belive it .
You will surely get to your $500 target playing against people like that. Godd luck
The strong point in poker is never to lose your temper, either with those you are playing with or, more particularly, with the cards. There is no sympathy in poker. Always keep cool. If you lose your head you will lose all your chips.
