My losing hand - Should i have done it??

Ok, here is how i was booted out of the paradise poker $1m freeroll.

I was trying to play tight solid poker and it was working up to a point. I was letting the maniacs bust themselves on All in calls on 3, 5 unsuited and whatnot, thinking i was doing ok, but just before the hour i was getting killed on the Blinds.

I was chips weak at the table and knew i had to play a hand pretty soon, so i took a risk on this.

What do you think, should i have waited a bit longer?

if i was in the same situation i would go all in preflop or call and drop the hand when you see the overcards on the flop (i'd probably go all in preflop though)... thats the only advice i can give, i'm sure someone else can help you out more.

i was considering it but the pot at that time was still quite small so I thought the risk outwieghed the gains. I know what your saying though

your pretty short stacked and need either the blinds or a double up to at least see a few more orbits.
When they both call push straight over the top. If you bust out thats unfortunate but you have to take the risk here in order to survive.

AI all day pre flop. As played it's a check fold on that flop.

When you have 900 chips and there are 500 out there on the table, the pot is NOT small.

Push preflop.

You are trying to win the hand post flop conventional style. What you need to do is all in preflop and win the blinds so you can survive another orbit looking for a better hand. 99 needs a set or undercard flop to be worth anything post flop. With this flop 99 is crap.

If you can keep 'just surviving' till you get a double up hand then your always winning. Winning the blinds is good.

Definetely have to push preflop in that situation. The A 7 may or may not fold, but even if he calls you're the favorite, even though in this case he would have outdrawn you. And in the case of fold, the pot still represented a good portion of your stack.

yeah i wouldve gone all in preflop... your M was like 3.5 or something man.. gotta do it sooner or later.. cuz youre not gonna fold pocket 9s.. might as well go all the way

Push preflop

With 99 and 2 people limping you want to either pick up the blinds or reduce the field to heads up, and hope your pair of 9's held up.
There is a good chance the other two limpers have overcards and you want to reduce the danger of the overcards on the board.

If you checked fold at the flop and look for a better hand.
