Multi-tabling technical question

Alright, so recently I've begun adding more tables, but last night while 6-tabling I started running into some lag (the distance between the cards getting dealt is longer, one time I even almost timed out on a good hand just because everything seemed to freeze for 20 secs or so).
I'm running table ninja and PT3. I play on Stars.
System: Windows Vista, RAM 1 Gig, Processor, 1.6 GHz, my internet connection runs between 48-100 Mbps in general I think - it's the lowest high-speed package u can buy.
My main question is, am I going to hit a limit of tables because of RAM or internet speed? or how can I test to see which part is not keeping up?
Any helpful tips/comments would be appreciated.

When i found it on the t.o.p forum the other day i was like "oh cool!" and then i noticed i couldn't play more than like, 7 tables at a time.


if you're really dead set on using tableninja, try disabling the frames in the table control tab.

It's definitely RAM and not internet speed that's lagging you, tableninja and PT3 (HEM is probably worse unfortunately) are both bulky programs

Look at your cpu load while playing. You can try to switch to a simpler window decoration - this makes a difference in XP, I don't know if it's even possible in vista.

how do I look at my cpu load? I knew how to do it back in the day when windows was much more basic - what choices am I looking for in control panel?

Ok, so did some quick experimenting this am.
I'm never coming close to 10% of the CPU's usage, so that's completely out.
RAM
When I start up: 54%
At rest once I close the system tray junk I don't need 46%
Browser adds about 10%
Stars 5% - Even with 6 windows it only goes up like 1%
Ninja 5%
PT3 10% (without HUD up)
*Here's the thing, this is all without me actually playing. So once I start playing ninja will actually DO something and jump. PT3 will jump because it's analyzing hands, HUD will come up, etc. And the Stars load should jump because I'm interacting then, right?
I can poker without a browser, that's not a problem.
I could drop ninja, but to keep up the volume I'd have to get a AHK program going or something, is that going to really make that big a difference?
The biggest thing I see is, how can I get my base 46% lower to start off with? Someone mentioned simpler window decoration - any thoughts on how I can dumb down my fancy Vista?

what are your system specs i.e cpu hard disc etc. you say 1.6GHZ but is that a single core or a dual/quad core processor?
in the task manager theres an option to monitor performance in Vista and you can see how many hard faults you are getting in your memory. Don't worry about the term hardfaults( may be page faults but I'm working off my memory from 12 months ago) as these are the number of time Vista tries to access memory and it has been paged out into the swap file. So that it then has to reload the memory it needs from the swap file on hard disk in order to continue withthe program its running. This is a slow process compared to just a memory access and causes your computer to slow down drastically if there is excessive use of your swap file due to a lack of physical RAM in your computer.

Depending on your computer specs the amount of ram you can put in may be limited by the motherboard and your graphics card can also impact on the available RAm in a 32 bit windows computer as the memory addresses that graphics cards and other PCI/pci-e /isa are all mapped into windows from 4 GB down , if the required overhead of memory overlaps with your physical ram you won't be able to use the ram in the overlapped addresses. This is why if you put 4GB of ram into your computer , if you have a decent graphics card you may only have 3GB available to actually use.

I think the answer to your first question is I have an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Tech TL-50 (1.6 GHz)? 32 bit system - It's just a Compaq Presario V6000 - straight from Best Buy about 2 years old.
I checked out the "hard faults" and it doesn't look good. Keep in mind I haven't actually played poker today, I shut down my computer after my session last night and today I've just been looking up stuff to try to figure this out. There were dozens of things that had 100's of hardfaults (this doesn't sound promising). So I suspect if I checked this while actually playing, it would be not so good. What I'm confused by is that it's registering all these hard faults while it's showing 48% of the RAM being used???
This is a laptop and though I think I can upgrade the RAM, I don't think 4gb is doable, seems like when I bought it they told me I'd be able to double it, that might be it. I've got about 40GB free space on my hard drive, I've heard things about setting aside some of this for RAM, is there a way to do that? Would it help me or will it still be slow - is the computer just using this space on its own when it creates the hard faults?
Video card - NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 - I've always had the max pixels and the 32 bits selected - I dropped it to 16bit, didn't seem to really change anything on the RAM usage - unless if maybe I'd have to restart it to see a change.

I'll spend some time this afternoon if I can looking for options in Vista that will allow me to reduce it's load in any way, don't know how much like I'll have, but can't hurt.

my PC is about to be retired to Itunes only and it has 2 g and I run XP (I think it's almost 4 years old now). I'm amazed you can even run PT3/HEM. Whoever sold you a system with vista and 1 GB of ram is not a vendor you should return to, skimping on RAM is the oldest scam in the book because you'll be back in 1 year to buy something that actually works. RAM is so cheap compared to the value added it may as well be free.

No, you cannot use really use HD space for RAM. I think you can get fancy and move HD space to the swap something but it isn't as good as RAM anyway. Before you mess around with re allocating anything just buy RAM

I have a Presario C500 and I just went through something similar. I have Vista, HEM, and ninja. Ninja isn't as bad as it was when they first came out with it. My system was running fairly slow as I added tables. I did some research and learned that my laptop could only hold 2.5gb max.

I added what I could and saw a little bit of difference. The other thing that I did was purchase an 8gb flash drive that could do Ready Boost. Not sure if this did anything but it was worth a try.

The crazy thing was that when my subscription ran out recently for my Tred Micro, I removed it and my system actually runs a lot better. Even when Tred Micro wasn't scanning or updating it was slowing things down.

when your computer has to use the harddrive to write shit in instead of ram that's when you get the lag
it takes like 0.1 sec to do shit on the harddrive and like 5 nanoseconds to access shit from RAM

OK, so update: After cleaning up some stuff (still got a bit more to do) and shutting down a few more background programs that are just bunk, I ran 8 tables tonight with no hint of lag! Hopefully that's a good sign.
One of my buddies at work said to upgrade RAM in a laptop you have to send it in, that's not right is it?

lol, no... that's not right at all.

upgrading memory is about the simplest thing you can do to a laptop or desktop. there should be an access panel to your ram on the bottom of your laptop. two screws and it's off. most laptops only have two banks for ram, and they're kinda half stacked on top of one another. you put the first stick in at like a 30-45 degree angle, push down to clip it in and then do the same for the second.

i have about a 2 yr old toshiba satelite that came with 1gb and vista premium and upgrading to 4gb for about $40 was the best thing i ever did.

You can always use XP instead of Vista which will be much faster for the amount of RAM you currently have.

RAM is weird though. You want to check your system after you install it so that you are sure that it is using the RAM that you put it. For some reason, it took a couple of times for my system to recognize it.

If you put new RAM in and your system doesn't boot-up, don't panic. Just do a hard shutdown and take an eraser and run it over the gold connecting teeth. This will help to remove static. Don't ask me why this works, but I had this problem and I got this advice from a computer forum and it worked like a charm.
