    Default MTT Question

A couple of days ago I was in a $1 entry MTT with 1900 entrants. I had a good day and was 4th in chips with 50 some players left. After the 2nd or 3rd break,I happened to be at the same table as the chip leader. He was using his stack to push some players around.
Then this hand came up. Don’t remember the exact bettering to the turn, but it was about 10% - 20% of my stack.

    I’m holding

    Ad Qd

    Flop comes

    Kd Jc 4d

    Turn is 7d

He goes all in, I figure he had a set or maybe two pair. Maybe a flush. Either way he has to draw to beat me so I call.

He has K J and hits a J on the river, I finish in 53rd place.

If this is a ring game, it’s a no brainer. I’m getting better than even money on a made hand. At best, he has what, 10 outs? Well one of 4 outs sent me home.

My question is this. Should have I put all my chips at risk in this position? If I take it down I have a BIG lead. Or do I back off to ITM?

You clearly don't understand where your winnings come from when you play poker.

I might fold this in a satellite that has 30 seats that pay to winner and were down to 33 people left. I am close to chip leader and the chip leader pushes on me and I still have a decent stack if i fold. FOlding this though is flat out wrong. Good call and next time he might not get so lucky.

To a500lbgorilla... I know you are an old timer on this board, but this is the beginners circle. Just because you know what's right and wrong, doesn't mean everybody else does. Neither of your posts added any use to this thread, other than trying to make the original poster look stupid. I'm not having a go, just reminding you that this is the beginners circle where people are meant to be allowed to ask "stupid questions" without being made a fool of, in the hope that experienced players will guide us newbies in the right direction.

This is just my style. Like it or love it, you gotta live with it. I'm an easy going guy so I sometimes forget that other people get angry about stuff like this.

But my second is accurate. He needs to have something click in his brain so that he can realize where his money is coming from when he is playing SnGs. It comes from +EV blind steals and getting all the chips in post flop when you are ahead.

But you're right. I was, as always, a bit harsh.

On the turn you had the nuts, you are ahead. The only way to make money in poker is to get your chips in when you are ahead, ring or tourney. You have to call this. What happened to you is a bad beat, get used to them, they happen a lot. Your play was fine.

You know what struck me? Not 'Rilla's abrasiveness (he's very helpful by even reading the nooby section, and he's well loved, and well abused.) What struck me was SSocal's modesty in approching the beginner's forum after reaching 50th in a 1900 seat tourny. And that SSocal's timidity about holding the nut hand and calling all-in to an unpaired board with onle one card to come was not an indicator that he lacked knowlege -- he made the correct call, afterall. SSocal timidity was an indicator that he lacked confidence in making the right call merely because he lost.
In 'Rilla's own way, he called it -- paraphrasing 'Rilla in a less-abrasive way, "How can you not try to double up while holding the nut hand with just one card to come? You have to have a thicker skin!"

SSocal, you dun g00t. Keep putting them in when you have the best of it. Don't beat yourself up about the outcome, because many final tables are filled with "bad beat" winners -- you can't second guess your play there, even if you were on the bubble for Big money.
    I'm a know-it-all.

    No, really.

Don't beat yourself up about the outcome
One of they keys to becomeing a good poker is learning to treat actions that results as unconnected.

You can not judge your play by the results of a hand. That is how fish learn to play

"calling an all in with TT is good because I made a bunch of money doing it once when he had AK"

"calling an all in with the nuts is bad because I lost that way once"

    See the connection?

Train yourself to learn to only look at how you played, not what the results were. Anyone can be lucky or unlucky.. Just look at what you did and leave it at that.

    Q. Is poker Gambling?
    A. Do you use correct bankroll management?

    Default Easy call

Let me repeat: You had the virtual nuts on the turn. You should be glad he pushed with a second best hand on the turn with 4 measly outs. You double up and he goes home.Unfortunatly he hit his retard out;there is nothing you can do about it.If the fish never sucked out once in a while they would all quit.

You did nothing wrong.I would kill for a hand like that.

Stone cold = no matter what the oppnnent has and no matter what the river is, you still win.

Yeah, in a smaller MTT someone pulled a straight flush with nothing but the river against my full house. I wasn't bothered by it for more than a moment realizing he had only 2 outs in the entire deck. Just gotta learn to live with the suckouts when you know you're ahead, especially when you're WAY ahead. That's when you feel it the most.
