Moving on up.

For about a year now I have been playing at the freeroll and micro levels and have managed to just barely be a winning player. My ROI is about 16%. If you can imagine, at this level this means I have made NO money at all.

I recently read Phil Ivey subsidized his bankroll with earnings made from a part time job. I have decided to jump from MICRO past LOW and settle in at the Medium level and subsidize the level with a taxi driving job. ANY money I make I will invest in my Bankroll.

I am a tounrament specialist and look forward to the slightly smaller field sizes and hope for a more realistic feel at the tables then I get at the MICRO levels. Gameplay at the MICRO level can be really bad because let's face it, people get bored after 2 or 3 hours of play knowing that even first prize will pay only peanuts.

I will try and keept this post updated and let you all know how it goes.

Why not play low buyin SNG MTT's of the 45-180 man variety?

I am probably not the one to take advice from, but I know enough to at least consider listening to the people above this post.

Just curious is the Taxi Job going to be your 2nd job? If not ?? How do you pay for rent and food?

FreeRolls >>> Micro Levels >>> Lower Levels >>> Medium Levels.

I understand the frustration in playing at the FreeRoll level.
FreeRolls are NOT the place to learn how to play Holdem.

You need to walk away from FreeRolls and not look back.

Start out in Micro or Lower limits.
Whatever fits your BankRoll (budget).
Please reconsider going directly into Medium Level play.
Trust me the things that you will learn as you learn to dominate the micro and lower levels will pay off many times over as you climb in levels.
Everything builds on it's self.
Learn as you go.

Not even in my noobiest days was this a thought for me.

Microlevel = bad players....
Med level = semi bad/semigood players

You think you'll outplay med tourneys in the long run?
If other players at the micro level are getting bored, then this is your time to shine....

And no offense but you cant call yourself a tourney specialist with this kind of logic....

if you seriously want to do this I've got some advice.
1) put aside $250 for your poker journey
2) grind the $2.20 90 and 180 mans on stars, and the DONs
3) move up as standard bankroll management guidelines suggest
4) occasionally chuck some sweetener from your job into your roll, but not much, and only if you're within 5bi of the magic bankroll number for the next level - then throw in those 5bi, sure, if that's really what you want to do and you have the spare cash lying around.
5) be prepared to move back down in stakes when need be
6) read the whole soupie guide to tournament play thread
7) read the other stickies/digest posts in the MTT thread
8) read HOH

I'm not sure what you meant with this post.
Respect in Holdem is not totally reliant on the levels you play.

At the Micro and Lower Levels there are so many players that do not poses the beginning knowledge of play. Therefore they can not be Bluffed or pushed off even a weak hand.
You can't Bluff a Calling Station or a Uneducated Player.

But if that is what you meant.
I think it's a valid point and I respect your opinion.

Micro Limits may be like playing FreeRolls.

Sigh. An old and oft-quoted complaint of losing players at the micros is: "I'm sick of these donkey calling stations continually sucking out on me. They never fold! I'm going to move up to a higher level where people play properly and respect my raises."

Which effectively what the OP was saying.

The answer to this, of course, is that if you can't exploit the calling stations at the micros then you'll have no hope of outplaying the better players at higher limits.

Thats what he meant.

Yeah really, don't play the Medium stakes...just stick to the micros.
