Default Monster Flop - How Do I Get Most Out Of It?

Titan No-Limit Hold'em, $1.20 6-MAx SnG Converted by Hand coz I couldn't get the Hand Converter to work

[a BC question, I thought, but let me know if it should go in the SnG Forum]

    Blinds: $75/$150

    CO ($3460)
    C'est Moi($2280)
    SB ($2142)
    BB ($1117)

Preflop: I'm on the Button with:,

    1 fold, I Raise $450, 1 fold, BB calls $450

BB is 54/7 after 41 hands. His MO is to limp or call preflop, then make half-pot sized stabs on each street. Takes it down often when opponents fold, but rolls over in face of anyone playing back with big reraises/shoves.

    Flop: ($975) ,, (3 players)

zomg! I am haz da Noooots!...errm...well almost. only concern is a runner-runner straight-flush.

Dilemma is how to maximise the situation. If he gets wind of that Ace, it's finito.

    BB bets $150,

    so far so good.

    I call $150

    Turn: ($1275)

    (2 players)

    BB Checks,

Well, it's official now. However, he's not made his usual bet. I don't fear the free card, in fact I hope it gives him a full-house or a flush, so..

    I check too

    River: ($1275)

    (2 players)

    BB bets $150, and ?????

    This made me laugh.

Erm, this is a really easy shove at river. He's either got a full house (calling any raise) or bollocks all (folding to any raise), and not many chips behind. Just get it in.

JJ, what bikes is telling you is that you have to at least try to get the chips in by the river. He gave you the bet sizing he feels will work best and now it's your (our) job to go back and do the math. I think if you look at stack sizes and break down spr for each street that you'll understand why this bet sizing works well.

Also, nobody is really thinking we have the other A in this spot so most villains are gonna put us on a pp or air and they'll be happy to get the chips in with like 88+ and sometimes worse.

    SPR - Poker Dictionary Definition

    Avatar has served it's purpose.

*edit* The example given in the definition is perfect for this situation.

Totally agree. We have Benny the Great to thank for that. More changes to come tho and pretty soon that avatar won't apply quite as well as it did. Not that I'm gonna stop being an a-hole tho, the commune created that monster and has to live with it now.

Doing a little more homework should get you better info on the subject than I can give you. Just google 'stack to pot ratio' and you'll get there. I'm certainly not the best person to explain it.

My point was to get you to look at effective stacks in relation to the pot size. Stacks get smaller with every bet or raise on each street. Planning bet sizing correctly will help us get all the chips in by the river.

Actually, with bikes bet sizing, villain is already all in on the turn.

I gotta be honest, with villain's stack the size it is, I'm happy to let him make a hand and just flat call his flop bet and check the turn, since cranking it up before river just allows him to fold out the air that might make a boat later, and if he has a hand, he's not folding to a river shove. I think once we shove the river, hand is played optimally as played. By river, villain either has a high card or a boat, simple. One is always folding and the other is nearly always calling a river shove, maybe like 22 -66 can find a fold, idk how highly a loose-passive fish values a weak boat on this board.

    well here's what i think..

either raise flop turn ra ra as bikes said. or as played shove river.

if my maths is fine then your villain has 367 chips left.. or a bit more the 2bb. you have the nuts so calling is stupid. you can raise to 300, 450, or AI. All of these options leave villain with 1bb or less after he loses the hand.

Even if he folds to your raise you got decent value here. Your villain should more or less be playing preflop fold/shove poker at this point and here he's bled 5bb (more than half his stack) into you by being an idiot. Thats great at far as i'm concerned.

And i'm guessing he'll call a shove with any pair above 5s here. since he's going to bust in 2-3 hands anyway.
