Default Micro NLH Buyins...Min, max or somewhere in between?

I haven't come across anything about this in the noob stickies so I thought I would ask. When buying into a cash table, do I need to be using the min? It seems to help me protect myself from bad calls in these early stages of learning how to play vs. online players. The problem is, when I hit a monster I am limited to the short stack unless I have already made a killing at this table.

I have tried using the max buyin, which seems to benefit when the table is hot for me as I am able to bully a little but seems to make me more open to getting raped on 2pair or 3of a kind when my oppenent has hit his monster.

Ideas? Other than "learn to bet post flop" :P

I believe that if you are fully confident in your abilities to rape the level you are at, then buy in for the max. Loosing your buy-in to a bad beat should have no bearing on your buy-in amount.
If you are making some questionable calls, then dont buyin for full amount until you improve that leak a bit. If you are regularly getting your money in ahead then go for full buy in...
At PS 2nl, I buy-in for 150BB ($3) b/c I am not confident to call an all in with the full $5 buy in plus that amount is not justified with my BR. Once I get over that, then it will be full buy-in...

It also depends on the tables. If 6/9 players have $2 or less then a $5 buy in isnt all that important.

Thats my 2nl cents.....ouch that was a bad joke...

100 BB or more if you're comfortable. buying in for less = losing value when you pwn someone

Im opedipus bitch, the original balla.
Totally dependent on what your comfortable with and what you want to learn. There are advantages and disadvantages to whatever you choose to buyin for. However, you must know that your strategy will change a good bit depending on your buyin.

Most people buyin for 100bb. Advantages would be if you have an edge you can generally maximize your earning potential. Some people buyin for 20bb, which can be learned to play relatively easily and I believe has a mathematical advantage (I don't know much about 20bb play tbh). Some people even buyin for 40bb or even more commonly 60bb. I've actually heard a fair amount of good things about 60bb play because supposedly it sits up nice stack to pot ratios with a lot of hands that can be tricky to play otherwise.

So just do some research, make a decision, and come to a conclusion on what you feel is best for you and most enjoyable. IMO of course.

I use usually buy in for halfstack

the reasoning behind it is explained nicely in this article so i wont bother regurgitating it

That article has some pretty good reasoning for half-stackin the buyin. I may try that out. I am only playin the 19 atm so that may help since I don't play SCs and most of my bets are QJ-AA. I'll give that a whirl and see how well I do with it.
