Default Just Starting Sit N Go

I am playing at PartyPoker.com at the Sit N Go and started with a $50 bankroll. I set myself a goal per month ($600) that I would like to hit and also a top goal per month ($800). I am playing the $6 and have also played a couple $11 tables just to try and get my bankroll up so I can start to play at the high tables. I also have Poker Tracker and am keeping my records there and I also made a spreadsheet to keep record of my bankroll. As of right now I have played in 10 Sit N Go and have placed in the money 5 times in those so I am at a 50% rate right now of getting into the money. My goal to that is getting that up to 7 out of 10 which I know with more tracking and more play time I will be able to reach. I am on here every day reading entries and wouldn't mind having someone quide me in the right direction to hitting my goals and also have someone look over my stuff once in a while. If anyone is interested just IM me and I will write back with my msn thanks all and may the cards fair you right.

ive just moved more or less completely from ringgames to sngs, playing the 11 sng at party.

I have not set a specific goal for myself (other then to try and make more money then i lose, and to stick within my bankroll hehe) but dont you think your goal of placing top 3 in 70% of the sng u play is a little high?

My first tip is to stop playing the $11s and switch websites to Pokerstars. You simply do not have the bankroll to be playing at that level. For starters I would suggest having atleast 15-20 buyins for the level you are at, the closest you could get to that at party poker are the $6 tournies. At pokerstars you could play the $1.20 tournies until you built your bankroll to around $100 where you could then move up to the $5.50s [same stakes as at party, but lower rake meaning more profit].

Secondly, the money goals are very ambitious if you are just starting, your main goal should be to improve, dont worry about the money until you are a proven winner and even then its not the best idea to be setting a monthly target.

Finally, you will not be able to maintain 50% ITM [in the money], thats just too high, let alone 70%. Honestly, for the time being just try to improve, dont set goals like these, especially ones so high.

no offence, but 7/10 ITM in SnGs is just wholly unattainable, whatever level or site you play at.

Well I will be staying at party poker I just can't get use to the Poker Stars site yet but will try to figure it out. As far as my goals you should always have some that I have read set a minimum and a max it is just something to shoot for that is all, you have to get yourself mentaly ready and setting a goal is part of that. My goals are maybe a litle high but I am aiming at $40/day and playing 4 days a week thats $160/week is my goal take that times 4 weeks in a month that is $640/month and that means lots of hands 530 as matter of fact already that is roughly 50 hands a Sit N GO I am in.

I understand the point of setting a goal, but a goal that is very hard to achieve is another thing, coming from a player who hasnt yet proven to be a winner is a entirely other thing. Set a goal you have some control over, like the amount of time you play, reviewing hand histories, etc. What if you hit a bad run? You cant control that, you can control how much you play and how you analyze your play. Set a goal of say X number of SNGs over X number of days, look over your tournaments and see how you played in them at the end. That is a goal that you can achieve, regardless of your run at the time, good or bad.

My goals are maybe a litle high but I am aiming at $40/day and playing 4 days a week thats $160/week is my goal take that times 4 weeks in a month that is $640/month and that means lots of hands 530 as matter of fact already that is roughly 50 hands a Sit N GO I am in.
You cant find a correlation between money won and number of hands played as you can not leave in the middle of a tournament, you must finish it. Look at the number of tournaments, not the number of hands in the tournaments. If you play 50 hands a tourney [seems low] how can you make $640 in 530 hands [seems high]? Thats $64 a tournament, first place in a $6 is $25.

Anyways, you need to be playing more than 10 SNGs to know whether or not you are a winning player. Do that before you start playing with a calculator to figure out how much you have to play to make so much. Keep playing and keep posting, that will get you better, but you just cant expect results like that in one month.

You're making me nostalgic. In Jan of 05 i posted something similar. Only I had turned $75 into $350 or something and I had a documented game that I was going to play.

Short term, anything is possible. Long term you need a proper bankroll and 70%ITM isn't sustainable. I'm not saying you're not good enuf to sustain a 70% ITM over the longterm. I'm saying It's Not Possible for Anyone to sustain a 70% ITM over say 1000 SnG's. When SnG's go south on you they seem to do it in brutal ways that make you want to get a one way blood transfusion (just out). lol

But I would be the last to say you can't jump start a good, money-making run of poker from a blind, unrealistic SnG goal. I did it. And I'm no poker genius.

So good luck, blind faith and a run of good luck is all you need. I hope you do it.

Just realize that you can't piss in the poker god's eye forever. So as soon as possible start following proper BR management.

    good luck.

I havnt read the other posts so i apologize for any repeated comments.

I am speaking from the view opint of someone who has played SNGs for a long time.

    1) Do not set money goals. You have no cnotrol over variance. You can only contorl how mnay SNGs u can play.
    2) People play 10 SNGs in an hour. PLaying 10 SNGs will not tell u how good you are. Playing 10 SNGs will tell u that u are a god of poker when u are really just a lucky fish. Playing 10 SNGs will tell u that u suck horribly at poker when you reealy are a god of SNGs. 10 SNGs doenst mean anyhing, Play 5000 and then tell me ur ROI and ITM.
    3) A realistic ITM will be something between 37-40. ITM doesnt really matter. ROI does. Its possible to be ITM 50% of the time and still lose money.
    4) BR management for SNGs.
Step 1, If you are playing SNGs that cost 5 + X. X should not be more than 0.5. If it is you are throwing away money.
    5) My Screen name is TheGrindHer on AIM, and [email protected] on MSN, I can help you becmoe at least a break even player.

SnG's are a way of lifde for me and I'll tell you right now that if you want to be an SnG player you have to play on FTP or PS because their structures are worlds better than Party. I think I've also heard good things about UB.

Better structrues? Or just ones that suit your style of play better?

In my limited experience, I prefer Party to Stars because I like there to be a little bit of urgency in the games I play. At Stars they are SO tight and slow that not only do they take a lot longer (a bad thing) but it's far harder to make people make donk moves.

Have you played Party SNGs since they revamped the structure a couple of months ago? The old structure *was* just too much of a crapshoot, but the new structure is almost ideal, for my style of play at least.

Also - Party is 10-handed, which means the prize pool is bigger, and when you're a better than average player, that means the extra 10th player is likely to be worse than you, which is +EV.
