I'm new too - but I would fold it. JJ is junk to me, too many overcards. Depending on any reads or hand histories you have on Spielrin, you might want to call or even raise. Is he tight, so probably has KK/AA/AK? Or is he loose and trying yet another bluff/steal or another "i'll see the flop but only with one other player". Just showing your starting hand with no other info would not be enough for me to make a decision or offer any advice. But to me, JJ is not a good hand to go in with following a large reraise, it's only a pair (the lowest hand after a high card), and not a great pair at that.

well,if i knew he was loose i was gonna call him,but i think he just joined the table so thats why im wondering what to do with raises like this when i have JJ.

It hurts but I think you have to fold, if it was only like 4 guys I would call but with that many guys... but ya never know

It depends. I'm leaning toward fold.

Initially I would've raised a tad bit more than $1. That seems a tad bit weak to me. He may be thinking the exact same thing and be trying to steal the pot.

Since your in LP, you might consider calling and seeing the flop. If he checks, you bet. If he bets weak, I'd raise. If he bets strong, then I'd fold.

I could be wrong though.

I play mostly Sng and not ring games, but such a big raise smells fishy if the villian wants some action.
There is a good chance he has 2 overs or even a lower PP

No chance - a re-raise just isn't going to happen with a lower PP (tens, just maybe - I did precisely that recently and ended up busting out against AA - but then I was on heavy tilt at the time) at this level of the game. He has at worst AKs or QQ.

i see this kinda thing all the time from people who just sit down, usually they have Ax, a small pair or a total bluff from some agro maniac, i'd probably fold though as i just dont like jacks...

edit: just re-read the hh, i thought he went all in....i'd definately fold as he has a full stack, the behaviour i described is from people who buy in short

I'd fold. Then again, I'm like Greedo in that at a full table, I'm likely to play JJ for the set more often than not (esp in early position).

As for the new guy, if he is a decent player, LAGGy or otherwise, I think he would want to scope out the table before banging in big raises on his first hand. I suspect he has KK or AA and felt he had to play hard because he didn't know how the table would react - and better to get all folds with a $8 raise than 5 calls with a $2 raise (say).

I like the preflop raise with the JJ.

When you get reraised big, i would fold without an iron read on the guy. If you call and the flop is all unders, are you going to be willing to invest the rest of your stack? He only has another $18 so you dont have odds to call hoping for the set. OK, he could have AK, but it's gonna cost you to find that out.

It's a clear fold here imo.
