    Default I'm new here.

And i've read through a few hands on this site, but i'm just wondering a few things. It might sound like a stupid question, but when you refer to a player as 9/8 or 33/5, what does it mean? I'm kinda assuming it's hands dealt/ flops seen?
If not can someone explain to me.

And also what kind of software if any do you guys use in game? I'm looking at getting some, but i'm not sure what i should use. I really want to take poker as serious as i can, stick to my bank roll stakes and build a roll, and i think this forum will give me alot more insight to poker as to what i don't know.

    Cheers,

    Ace.

Hi, if someone is 15/12 then this means they play 15% of hands and raise 12% of hands. Thus they fold 85% without putting in anything more than the blind. The 3% difference indicates calling a raise or limping.

poker tracker offer a free trial, I think hold 'em manager do too. very useful tool for profiling your villains.

Read the beginner's digest, it's a great place to get started.

You will also see numbers like "20/17" or "65/20" regularly. These are taken from tracking software. The first number is VP$IP - Voluntarily Put Money In Pot - which is the percentage of hands the player has put money in the pot, not including blinds or antes. The second number is PFR - PreFlop Raise - which is the percentage of hands the player has raised before the flop.
Check out the Beginners' Circle FAQ as well, it covers some basic points such as bankroll management

So if a players VPIP is 51 and their PFR is 5, that means they fold 49% of hands, Raise 5% of hands and call a raise or limp 46% of the time?

VPIP refers to the % of your hand sample on them in which they have put money in the pot preflop, regardless of how that happens (ie it includes ANY time they call or raise preflop, regardless of what happens before them or after them)

PFR refers to what % of the time they have raised preflop (open-raise, 3bet, 4bet, 5bet, 6bet etc).

so in your case, this guy has played 51% of the hands he has been dealt, and he has raised 5% of the hands he has been dealt, the other 46% he has just called.

You need to set up the folders to auto import. I only know how to do it with Hold'em Manager but I'm sure someone can help

You also need to tick the preference in 888poker that says "Save hand histories" or whatever, otherwise the folder that PokerTracker's looking for (the hh folder) won't exist and it'll think your poker client's not installed.

Just to clarify, posting blinds does not count as VPIP ('cause the posts are not voluntary).
For the small blind, this is a moot point, but not the big blind. If you're in the BB and it's a limped pot and you check your option, that does not count towards VPIP, even though you'll be seeing a flop.
