Everyone has the same problem, dude. Whether its poker or sports or whatever.

Now I'm special case. I have a radically obsessive personality. I completely lack the abiltiy to do anything half-assed. Which is to say when I decided I liked Hold 'Em, I went straight to the bookstore. I started tracking down sites like this one. Playing small limits probably 250+ hands per day (not multi-tabling, so several hours/day). And was taking DETAILED notes on my common opponents. I obsess about crap I enjoy, like poker.

Prior to that, it was pool (still is, fool!). All I wanted to do was kick ass at pool. Books...going out...playing tournaments...joining several leagues...eventually building an addition on the house and buying a pool table. Get it. I'm a freak. But guess what-- I KICK ASS AT POOL.

And I intend to kick ass at poker--do you doubt me?

You gotta set limits. And make sure you obsess about the lady too (you said there's no going around it, eh). You can talk to her, like the others said. But more importantly, you gotta make sure she knows poker's not more important than she is. C'mon, you know it's not. Do whatever to make sure she knows it, and she should respect your poker hobby.
