Default I gots a set! Villain shoves...

Villian was running 31/3, and wasn't typically aggressive postflop either. Do you think he will ever have 2Pair or less here?

Instant call, what are we worried about here.

I read the thread title and though "call".

I read the thread and think "call".

Yer hand is just too strong to make a big laydown. I don't care how passive they seem postflop, don't make big laydowns like this at the micros...

KK probably 3bets pre, JJ is inbetween, so that's a possibility. Even still, can't worry about set over set, or we may as well not set mine at all.

I smell KJ with stats and an attitude like his and even if I thought he was stronger than this I'm not folding this at all.

I also don't think top set or even middle set would ever shove here, who honestly does that? It's more common to see someone try to milk the chips out of you for value. Set/set is rare too, so we can't be folding sets on this flop because we think our opponent might have a higher one. If he wasn't aggressive he'd be slowplaying a big hand like that most of the time.

Call it a hundred times and your ahead lots of moniez. He may have KK but probably more like AK, KQ or KJ. Again do it a hundred times and it's all goood!

if you're really worried about him having top set here you're playing way too scared...

The way I see it, the villan can have AK, KJ, or JJ based on your read that he's not very aggressive. I rule out KK because he would have probably 3 bet pre-flop. You just can't get hung up over JJ being in his range. You have hit your set with a middle pocket pair and someone has pushed with a bigger stack than you. This is the best case senario for you. Insta call, and on those rare times he actually has a better set you just have the take it and reload.

This hand is ridiculously standard and lately I'm getting more and more disturbed by the fact that everyone seems to think pots like these are the ones that make or break you as a winning poker player.

There were probably 10+ other situations during this session which are far more important to your winrate. However, people who are new to poker tend to rationalize a big loss with a bad play and a big win with a good play. This type of thinking is most certainly incorrect, as even had you lost this pot you certainly did nothing wrong.

i 2nd what spenda said. just to let it be known, if you flop a set and stack off and you were behind on the flop to a straight, a bigger set, a flush, it is a cooler and should not be thought about twice!!
