I flatted AA preflop because of SPR
SPR stands for stack to pot ratio. It tells us that certain hands are good enough to go with post-flop. I noticed since my opponent is a semi-decent shortstack running 23/15 he will probably fold preflop to a lot of my raises. However, if he flops top pair he will never be able to let it go. This is because after calling, the SPR is 4. If he misses, I pick up a cbet. Had he been deeper, say 100BB, this wouldn't make sense to do because he won't automatically play for stacks with marginal hands post-flop.
Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (6 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com
UTG ($102.50)
MP ($110.80)
CO ($111.70)
Button ($34.50)
SB ($157.20)
Hero (BB) ($100)
Preflop: Hero is BB with A , A
3 folds, Button bets $3.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $2.50
Flop: ($7.50) 5 , Q , 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $5, Hero raises to $15, Button raises to $31 (All-In), Hero calls $16
Turn: ($69.50) 9 (2 players, 1 all-in)
River: ($69.50) 2 (2 players, 1 all-in)
Total pot: $69.50 | Rake: $3
Results:
Button had 8 , 8 (one pair, eights).
Hero had A , A (one pair, Aces).
Outcome: Hero won $66.50
This is pretty much the expected result. If I had 3b, he would have probably felted 88 anyway, but folded a hand like QJ that he would play for stacks post-flop but not preflop.
