Default How big of a mistake did i make here?

Sometimes i just hate to fold hands(which is stupid i know). Especially after getting crap all night. I had a feeling (s)he had the straight, but just could not let it go... I quit after this hand, to avoid going tilt.

btw, this is my first post. This site is great. Love the "19 starting hands" post. Kind of pissed about not listening to my head on this one and think i'm done playing for the night.

    Welcome to FTR, Ben.

Bet the flop next time. $5 shoulda done it.

thanks. I'm always afraid of scaring away everyone. scared away everyone except one w/ a $2 bet.

I was doing o.k. up until that point. Playing pretty tight. I just could not bring myself to fold those pocket aces... grrrr.

If you do not mind me asking. How would you have played this hand?
  5. #5
Better scearing them away then loosing a big pot to a better hand who you are letting draw too cheap. You bet so you give them bad odds to call, often these players will call anyways, but then they make a mistake, and when they make a mistake you make money! In the long run that is, and that's what matters.

Yeah... a dollar bet after the flop probably would have bought it...

/sigh...so much to learn and so much money to lose

Rather so much to learn so much money to win FTR is a great place to learn how to improve your game, I started out like 4-5 months ago, first loosing a little... then breaking even for quite some time, and now I'm making nice money. Just focus on improving your game and you'll see the results

The frustrating part is... both big pots i lost... I knew that i was beat, but for some reason in the back of my mind.. I felt like i had to call w/ what i had invested allready.

    stupid...stupid..stupid..

    oh..for a little background.

I've been playing for about 2 years or so(not too serious), online for a couple months(not too serious either).

I love to play. Sometimes i get stupid, like tonight though.... 1 hand will wipe out an entire night of progress

Well... i'm happy to say after taking the night off and chilling a bit. I was able to rebound today and pull myself out of the hole and ahead a bit.

letting go of big hands that are beat is a thing which is tough for most new players, this is the kind of thing you learn from experience and money lost.

The major problem with the hand you posted is that you let him complete his hand for cheap.

Get used to the fact that most of the times with big pairs you will win relatively small pots.
With big pairs unless you set it you usually want to take the pot down on the flop or the turn (or at least give opponents bad odds to draw).

Bet 3/4 of the pot on the flop
