Horrible call???

This guy had been at this table for 25 hands and pushed every hand. I decided the first pair I got. I was calling. He had showed 23o, 49o, etc........

So where's the question? You're going to see people like this simply gambling and going all-in every hand. I say call when you know you're ahead of his range. Pocket pairs or high cards and I'm in there like swimwear. I LOVE when these players are at my table.

Are you shortstacking, or have some other reason to have < 100BBs in front of you?

If you think the villain is shoving ATC, then this is easy. Calculate your equity needed to break even on a call (hint, it can be found in a lot of places on this site/on internet) then use PokerStove to find the range of hands with > than that equity percentage, then call.

Should one really risk 40BB's when they know they are ahead pre-flop? I guess that's really my question. I know GBM allows for the beats. But, should I be risking 40-45 BB's pre-flop against anyone without AA?

I had just taken a beat and failed to re-load. Thanks for the hint but I had actually followed this guy for an hour for information on his play. I was aware that he hasn't a range. He was pushing with anything and I had calculated my equity many times before making the call in the first hand posted above.

When you're ahead, call. If you are properly rolled, you can get it in even with a slight edge over and over again.

Don't shortstack.
If he shoves ATC, then call when you're ahead.

I also don't like the raise. Don't give him a reason to fold a hand. Just limp / call.

Great point here and something I hadn't thought of. I hadn't seen him fold. However, I shouldn't give him that option.

You're so far ahead if hes shoving any 2. Just be careful when u call light and there's still people behind you. Also, just turn on auto rrebuy unless you're only playing JJ+, AQ+ preflop. With a small stack you're losing value on playing smaller pp's or drawing hands.

1. Download pokerstove
2. open pokerstove, and click on player1, then click on "preflop"
3. Move the slider to the far right 100%
4. Click on player2 then click on "pre-flop"
5. Move the slider to the right until you hit 100% again.
6. delete 10 of the worst hands from the scale.
7. run the test.
8. If you are not a 55/45 favorite, go back and add hands or delete hands until your range is a 55/45 favorite.
9. Call with all of the hands in the 55/45 range.
10???
11. Profit.

ragnar, why 55%? How often do you think the poster checks his post to slowplay (against a frequent preflop shove monkey) vs. how often he has nothing?

I would say he would only slowplay QQ+,AK which is like what, 4%?
even THEN you'll find that our equity is not terrible

rake is like 5%
we can make a profitable call if we're 52% vs. his range because the money in the pot just about pays for the rake, and the 2% is the insurance against running into a better hand by the poster
