    Default high cards are confusing

    i have 2 questions:
1- lets say one person has a 10 and an 8 in there hand and the other person has a 10 and a 7. the community cards r 10, 5,4,3,2. so they both have a pair of 10s. does the do the 10s count as the high card or does it go to the next highest card?

2- if one person has a 7 and a 6 and the other person has a 6 and a 5. the community cards r A,K,Q,J,10. is the A the high card and they split the pot or do they go to the highest pocket card is the winner?

On question #1, both players have a pair of tens. The player with the highest kicker wins the hand. The kicker is the highest card not already used in your 5 card poker hand. In this case the player with 10 and 8 wins.

On question number #2, both players have an ace high straight. There is no kicker, because you can only use five cards to make your hand. In this case, the pot would be split.

    Welcome to FTR.

What happens is you are dealt two pocket cards then 5 community cards on the board. Everyone can use the community cards. The goal is to take your pocket cards and combine them with the board to make the best 5 card hand.

So for example one: Player 1 (T8) has the hand TT854 [his T paired then you use the next highest card either on the board or in his hand and so on till you have a 5 card hand]

Player 2 (T7) had the hand TT754. Therefore player 1 wins because he has a higher kicker (the eight).

For example two: Neither players cards matter in this instance. The board is an Ace high straight, which is a better than any other combo the hole cards or community cards could make. So the pot is split with both players getting 50% of the pot.

Let's tweak the second example a little. Say player 1 has 76 and player 2 has 65. The board is now AKQJ2. Player 1 now wins because his hand is AKQJ7, while player 2's hand is only AKQJ6.

    Are you starting to understand?

ok ya thats what i thought on question one. and on the second question i didn't mean for there to be any hand. what if there was A,K,Q,J,8 for community cards? who would win then or would it b a split pot?

If the board was AKQJ8 and the hands were 76 and 56 then the pot would be split as neither of the opponents hole cards could make the hand better (the cards are lower).
