Guts with the Nutz (50 & 100NL)
I was perusing Gabe's blog the other day and came across some hand histories that made me think about my turn and river play quite a bit. I tend to be a fairly solid ring player, but I mix it up enough to get paid off on healthy value bets on the the turn and river, when I hit my hand.
However, after seeing some of Gabe's hands (and other big bet gurus), its pretty obvious that I could have far more guts with the nuts and push more often to destack folks with 2nd and 3rd best hands. E.g., I turn a straight with 78s, and I'm pretty sure the guy has 2 pr or trips. Typically, I'll bet 1/2 the pot on the turn and river and get paid off eagerly. However, when I see trips from the other guy, it kinda pisses me off that I woulda destacked him with an AI on the turn or the river.
Sure, this post might be worthless to most, but does anyone have some thoughts on when to value bet and when to push? I usually do so with broadway straight, 'cause bozos will often call with two pair. Any other scenarios that make your mouth water?
BTW--Talking 50 or 100NL here...
