going from smaller NL games to bigger NL games ($2/4 and up)

Just wondering what some of the other higher stakes players think about the skills needed to be successfull at this level. I'm talking about NL games with blinds of $2/4 or more. Winning at this level means and easy extra five figures in your bank account come christmas time. Let me know what you guys think. Lets get some discussions going.

Learning to lay down and learning some imagnitive play are key.

pshhhhhhhh I made an extra 5 figures playing NL25 and NL50 mixed in. I dont anymore because soupie ripped on my enough about having phat money and still playing pussy stakes - I decided to play NL200 and NL100 and am going to try to never go back unless Im totally losing my ass.

thats a very solid year at those limits... you should be able make a real chunk of change playin the $200 games... have you ever tried Full Tilt? Awesome bonus's if you play decent stakes and they have a pretty easy $1/2 and $2/4 NL game.. you should give it a look

You have to be willing to fold big hands when your beat and bet like you have a big hand when the other buy has you beat.

yeah learning to lay down hands was the hardest thing for me moving up. Bc most players at these levels dont push huge or call big bets with just top pair like they do in the smaller games. i cant tell you how many times ive folded top pair with top kicker on the flop.

Being able to adjust to your table is also much more crucial at higher stakes. You will have better players there who will speed up and slow down alot more then you do at the smaller tables.. it seems at the $25 and $50 games everyone plays at the same speed all session long. You must pay high attention to every hand and see when players are changing gears. This is why i try to only play 2 tables at once.. i feel like i miss to much information otherwise

I did have 600 in full tilt for one of their bonuses but people were bitchin so much about clearin about the bonus I just withdrew it and never went back. I also heard somewhere that full tilt has some excellent players. Im not sure if they were referring to the high stakes or lower stakes. It was on this forum somewhere discussing who had the best players. UB ranked up pretty high too along with poker stars.

i do better at FT then anywhere else..and the bonus isnt bad if you play 3/6 limit or 1/2 NL or higher. i cleared my 600 in about 6 weeks and now i just cleared another 300 in 18 days. if you play these stakes it is definately worth it. i have found the 1/2 NL 6 max tables very easy. there are a few good players but you learn to pick them out fast... PM me if you sign up and want a list of the really tough players on the site as i have one started.

Man thatd be phat except I have never played 6 max my whole life and im afraid they would eat me alive. Did you start at 6 max or transition from 10 max or you just mix it up between the 2.

i started playing full ring but it dosnt fit my style of play as well. I can sit there and grind it out at a 10 or 9 person table but i prefer the 6 person tables where i can be looser and alot more aggressive. But even the full tables are pretty easy if you are used to playing a full game. I think its hard to jump back and forth from 6 max to full ring though. Like in 6 max i will push an AJ from UTG without hesitation. But in a full ring at that level i will get crushed doing that. But just give them a try man. you might do really well at it

Wow a push with AJ all in under the gun. I could have a hard time getting used to that. How often in a 6 max game do hands go to the river?

It's not uncommon to see people making 4bb raises with less than premium hands at higher NL tables. This should be no surprise to you if you've mastered the lower limit tables. But guys like ilikeaces86 says he's made about 1/3 of his bankroll off AA. At these limits, there are still suck outs, but it's alot different when you can slap down a $100 bet for them to see the next card.

Just play pocket pairs all day, hit a set on the flop, and you can make a ton of dough.

I think he's means just raising with it, not moving all-in.

Yeah i mean just raising with AJ..

And yes a 4 or 5 BB raise with less then the normal "premium" hands isnt that uncommon in higher stakes. But one thing that i have noticed is that the bad players at these higher stakes dont seem to bluff or call down with crappy hands as much as lower stakes, but they do try to slow play ALOT! They see that $400 sitting in front of someone else and flop trips and think they are invinsible. So i do play a bit more drawing hands but you have to be smart about when to get away from them and when to try to hit
