Getting check-raised

I was playing some 20NL 6max last night and a well-known (to me, anyway) multitabling TAG sat to my right. He's seen me play a few hands before (Probably about 100), and I'm probably down as a SLAG, as I like to make lots of moves preflop (When the stacks are deep), and enjoy c-betting and semibluffing. I tend to run about 25-40/20, depending on the table. I thought he wouldn't be much of a threat to me due to me having position, but he played OOP beautifully against me during blind battles - he kept on check-raising the flop.

I ended up leaving the table about 50 hands after he arrived, as he was just murdering me in most pots that we were in. I had a think about his strategy, and it works well, because :-

- I can't really call the check-raise without the goods, therefore it keeps me honest.
- It gives him a free turn when he checks to me and I have nothing.
- It takes my aggression on draws/semibluff away from me, as the check-raises create bloated pots, and so a pot-size turn bet would effectively kill my odds for drawing if I miss.

This strategy basically took all my non-ABC tools away from me, and took me back down to playing my cards, which I can't stand doing.

I shall be implementing this move into my arsenal, but what's the best way to counteract someone who's making this kind of move on me? I didn't really like the idea of getting into an Ace High pissing contest with him, do you think it's necessary to do so to beat this type of player?

What is he check raising you with?

I do this to players on my left a lot. Ramping up your aggression even further and starting to 4-bet me will stop me from doing this to you with not much but then I just tighten up and keep at you with real hands. If I'm doing it with not a lot in the first place you're usually giving off a bet size tell of some sort. You can close that hole by being consistent or sucking me in by underbetting real hands once in a while.

Often it comes down to who leaves the table first. I never want you on my left but if you're there I'll play and try to frustrate you.
