Default The games getting harder! why!?

What are the reasons for this theory that says that games up at higher stakes are getting tougher, and its slowly spreading down?

I mean understand that people are getting more educated about poker, but won't that be offset by the fish in the sea just learning?

Rule #1: Every player will reach his 'apex of profit' at a certain level.
Rule #2: Every player will try to play higher than his apex.
Rule #3: The more fish that play higher, the higher a players apex.

When a player moves pass his apex, he may become a fish at the next level, feeding the higher stakes players. Some players will move down when they realize they can't beat the higher level, others may go busto. As you move up higher in stakes there are obviuosly less fish. Before the UIGEA, they were more fish at the tables than regs, some times at tables up to 5/10nl. Now you need to be at most around .25/.50nl to get the same fish levels. Now 2 years since the UIGEA, the players average apex is much lower and alot of players have had to move down in order to keep winning, making the games at the lower levels much harder. This will continue because new good players will move up until they reach their apex, sending other regs down. Until there is a new influx of fish, this is reality that we all face.

Rule 1 is wrong, in my humble opinion.

My apex of profit, a function of my knowledge and approach to the game vrs all of my opponents, is constantly changing.

So you are saying that you can beat any game going on the internets right now?

Everyones apex is in flux, as your knowledge increases so should your apex.

Sure. Not to be a pompous ass but if you don't think so, I think it deters your willingness to learn, adapt and overcome. Though it might not be true, i think it's valuable to think that eventually, one day, you could beat 25/50 NL.

And you second comment was my point. Rule one implies some static state which is just not true. Nothing is static in this game. 2nl 4 years ago would be 8 people going all in. preflop.

So then everyones poker limit is going to be 200/400nl with Ivey and Antonius?

I agree that everyone should think they can and try to do whatever they can to play as high as they can. At some point you will become tapped. This is evident in all walks of life.

Also you may be able to play higher, but you max profit level may be lower, hence apex of profit.

bah, this is so bad for logically discussion.

edit: also, i think from your other comments that you didn't fully appreciate what I was saying.

I am agreeing with your point as well, I think that any other mindset would be fatal to any aspiring poker player. The players at the top will be the most talented with the best work ethic. From there on down the players will be any mixture of talent and work ethic, and as is the case in most fields, the most talented ones will work the least to improve. I hope that some day we will all sit the best players on the web, but I don't think that will ever become a reality.
