Gamblers make poor poker players
I have never been the type to gamble. I have always had access to casinos but never spent a dime at them. I just hated the idea that the odds were stacked strongly against you and towards the house (speaking of craps, blackjack, roulette, slots, etc). I never play the lottery because I feel like I am just throwing away my money. Gamblers love these games because you can win big. Yes you can, but the odds are against you.
A gambler is the type to sit down at a poker table with ¼ or ½ or more of his entire bankroll. These are the same people you will read posts from on how they got bad beat with their AA. Bad beats happen…why did it affect them so much? Because they played outside their bankroll. One is much less likely to “scream at the unfairness of it all” when your AA gets cracked and you lose a buy-in, when that buy-in represents less than 10% of your bankroll. It just doesn’t mean as much…as it should be.
A gambler is the type to take his AK, AQ, AJ, AT all-in PF because it has the potential to be a monster. You know these guys. 3 times in 10 they will win this hand against your KK and that is enough for them. But this move has no place in the profitable player’s book because he knows it is a long term loser.
A gambler is in it for the short term money that can be made. He walks in the door with x$ and knows if he gets lucky he can double, triple (or more) his money.
The long term poker player knows all of these are bad moves. Be a poker player, don’t be a gambler.
