Default Flop two pair against possible draw? (Beginner)

Hey guys. Been lurking here for a couple months. Just started NLHL three months ago -- I've read Theory and Practice and Full Tilt Strategy Guide. Still a horribly losing noob, but I enjoy the game and have seen improvement.

I was wondering if you could give me some insight into what more experienced players would be thinking in this situation:

    Seat 1: ($11.30)
    Seat 2: ($4.50)
    Seat 3: is sitting out
    Seat 4: is sitting out
    Seat 5: HERO ($4.85)
    Seat 6: VILLAIN ($11.60)
HERO posts the small blind of $0.05
VILLAIN posts the big blind of $0.10
The button is in seat #2
    *** HOLE CARDS ***
    Dealt to HERO [8d 9d]
    folds
    folds
    HERO calls $0.05
    VILLAIN checks

    *** FLOP *** [6h 8h 9c]

    HERO bets $0.10
    VILLAIN raises to $0.50
    HERO raises to $1.70
    VILLAIN raises to $5.30

    HERO?

Only at the table for 10 hands, no significant read on this player. At .05.10, the players don't seem to be that good (that's why I play there -- I'm not that good...). I'm thinking he might have a draw, a set, or an overpair.

What do you guys think? Should I call if I know more about the player, or is this an auto-fold? I should have raised pre-flop? I should have raised more post-flop? I should just stick to slot machines?

    Thanks for any input.

Well, based on the fact he was big blind and checks, you started with no information. He then saw a draw board, you min bet, he raised you to over the pot... so he has something in my opinion, could be a set, could be an overpair, could be a straight... I don't know on this one, if you call I think it is a coinflip.

But I'm a bit conservative... he seems very willing to go the distance on this hand, I think he hit the straight.

I'd go ahead and shove over him but I'm not that good. From BB could be slowplaying maybee he hit an over pair or top pair. He could be sitting 6/8 also he could also have one pair with a seven. I don't think he hit a set. I'd just get it in looks like a good spot to me. But then again I could be wrong.
One more tip could be to play with 100BB so that when you do hit your set or straight you get the most you can.

well you should of raised pf as limping first in from the sb is a no no. At micro stakes the villan has at least a set 90 percent of the time.

I could believe a draw or a pair with the raise, but with the 4-bet he's got something big. Most likely a straight or a set (I don't think many at these stakes raise a small /mid pkt pair in the BB pre-flop).

Oh yeah, and you should've raised pre-flop.

Great, thanks for all the replies guys. He ended up having T7, surprise surprise. Should have raised pre-flop, don't know what I was thinking. Need to work on not putting myself in tough situations unnecessarily.

    Thanks again.
