Betting more than the pot is just unecessary in both instances it seems to me.

You could bet half the pot in hand one and if he calls he's got pretty much no fold equity left.

For hand two a $5 would be easy to call and leave him no option but to stack off on the river.

Plus personally I don't like pushing my stack in when I've got such a large stack advantage; it seems counter-productive (unless it can be interpreted as "bullying").
If the guy has 6.50 left in front of him I'd rather bet 5 and let him decide to push.

Don't know if I can offer any evidence for this, but it just seems to work wel that way.
