projectb, I think firepay requires you to give them your bank account number and bank routing number, not just your atm card number. Right?
Its best to use a credit card, but for folks like us who's credit cards are not accepted by the poker folks, we pretty much have no (convienant) choice but to link a bank account.
Somebody told me that if you give a company your bank account numbers, then they have every legal right to clean you out and there is nothing you can do to stop them. Maybe that is what you heard? I've never actually researched this, but it seems kind of bogus. Anyways, the point is that companies like Firepay and Neteller have a legit business model and are not likely to steal money from your bank account.
However, you can't rule out the possibility of a mistake or a rogue employee stealing money from you. One thing you can do to protect yourself is open up a seperate checking account (with no overdraft protection) to use only with Firepay, and then don't keep any money in it except for funds that you are about to transfer to Firepay. I think some people on this forum do this..
Anyways, I might try that out but I haven't gotten around to it. For now I just have firepay linked to my regular bank account, and they haven't stolen anything from me yet.
