Droping a level

Well I have descided to drop down to $25NL level from $50NL due to some bad play that were costing me money and confidence.

While playing on $25NL I have won again and got my bankroll back to the original point when I did move to $50NL but I feel a little depressed that I had to take a step back.

I am almost positive it was a good move to drop down but I can't help it but to think I took a step backwards in my poker development.

Not sure why I am postiong this just felt like sharing some useless facts with rest of you.

Good for you for having the cahones to admit it before bankrupting your bankroll. I'd say you took a giant step forward in bankroll management, which as we know is a big part of making poker an income.
My hat is off to you.

We all feel disgusted when we are losing and it doesn't matter much if it is your fault or just variance. It still hurts. Stay at it and you will win in the long run. That is what matters.

I did exactly the same thing a while back Bo. Infact I withdrew down to $600 and built it back to the $1,200 I like for $50NL to teach myself some basics again. It did feel bad to drop down but it was an important lesson to learn as it taught me to stop chasing my losses, which was destroying my game, and now i'm back at $50NL I feel much more happy there.

GL when you hit $50 again, and remember its not a step backwards but a further step towards making you a better player!

I doubt there's any player who never had to do this. It'll probably happen us all when we try to do move to levels like 400nl etc if it hasn't happened already. I now it has happened me more then once.

Takes a big man to go down in stakes instead of just playing out of his bankroll. I had to move down to 50NL after playing 200NL because of a bad streak and serious cashouts to pay for bills. It's very depressing and hard to cope with when it takes you 4 times as long to make what you made at the higher, previous level.

I know I had to do it after going from NL25 to NL50 to gasp NL100 and after suffering the most surreal of all losing streaks I switched to Limit .50/1 then dropped to .25/.50 now grinding it out at .15/.30.Congrats on having the heart to drop down and bigger congrats for rebuilding there.

I am currently quadding two 25nls and two 50nls and that is an excellent transition for my 750 bankroll

Damn I forgot how passive these $25NL are. Cheapest draws you will ever find. And on top of it all they pay you off when you hit.

Yesterday after i had a couple of bad beats and after a long time going up and down i was about to tilt and wanted to try 50NL but then i realized i shouldnt do it and i stayed calm and kept on playing 25NL.Im proud of myself.

Like most of you here, I find the 25NL game not difficult at all. That being said, this is a perfect thread to let everyone know about my biggest drop in one day: lastnight. Ouch, I think I lost about 10% of my roll playing @ 25NL. Each large hand lost was with either AA or KK.... Variance has caught up to me for the first time in my career. I just found it really hard to lay it down after a re-raise on the flop. I must have lost 6 times with AA. Online poker is rigged I tell ya.

Congrats to Bo G for dropping a level... yes, congratulations. It takes balls, and a lot of dicipline.

After a short stint in the minors ($25NL) I moved back up to $50NL and have been doing very well. Made back all my earlier loss from $50 and my confidence is back.

Now let the good times roll.

Good work Bo, I read an article in Card Player by Scott Fischmann that basically said the same thing... Too many players make the mistake of being too macho to drop down in limits, and end up busting themselves... He said that he himself plays in the low-limit tourneys and ring games, and that playing at high limits does not mean you are a good player, and conversely, lower limits does not mean you suck. That is, the limits you choose should not be a function of your poker ability, but rather, your bankroll's ability to absorb the variances inherent in the game.

So, congrats on building your bankroll back up to the $50NL level again!
