There is nothing wrong with calling and checkcalling if you know what you are doing. You can use it to pot control with light hands, dealing with way ahead/way behind situations, trapping, delayed steals, picking off bluffs. However if you have leaks of "loose passive" nature, then yes it's good to try out raise/fold style of playing and rarely calling. Then you will start to pick situations where calling is better than raising/folding and rediscover "call" button.
